Chloe Veltman is the Chief Theater Critic for the SF Weekly which is one of the 2 big independent newspapers in San Francisco and one of the 4 main San Francisco papers that get's circulated around town and around the Bay. She's also a freelance writer whose work appears in papers from London to New York (ok there's nothing but ocean between London and New York but you get the idea.) She sent me one of the many articles that have been flying around recently covering the report in Nature Reviews Neuroscience about magicians knowledge containing a window into the brain.
I replied back to her and she seemed to think my response was worth writing about, even though I totally digressed from the topic. The link leads to her blog on Arts Journal that gets about a quarter of a million hits. http://www.artsjournal.com/lies/2008/08/......out.html This also appears on her own sites blog http://www.chloeveltman.com/blog/2008/08......ml#links I think I'd totally get creamed on some of the other rooms in this Café but I figured the local kids might get a kick out of it. Best, Christian

Hey guys,
The "Bay Area Backroads" segment on magic in the Bay Area is re-airing this weekend: Saturday (8/16) and Sunday (8/17) at 6pm on KRON 4. If you missed it the first time around, it's a very nice overview of some magic epicenters in the area: the indispensible Misdirections Magic Shop in SF, Will Chandler's wonderful Magic Garage in the South Bay and (my favorite) Gerry Griffin's California Magic Dinner Theater in Martinez. In addition, two of the Bay Area's best, PCAM winner Chin Chin and Disney magician Alex Ramon are heavily featured. Check it out.

Hi everyone,
Just a couple of things going on: On September 2nd (Tuesday) Oakland Magic Circle will be hosting their Annual Inter-Club Professional Stage Competition. For Tickets: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/40082 We would love to see anyone from California Magic or the SAM 112 who knows Danielle to come out and support her as she will be competing this year! She is very excited and I know she would love the support if you can make it. This is a really big deal for her and she is really looking forward to it. On September 13th SAM 112 presents the Stars of Magic at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, 2640 College Avenue, Berkeley. For Tickets Please Call: (925) 798-1300 or http://www.juliamorgan.org/ Adults $14.00 Seniors/Children: $ 10.00 Once again Danielle is in the lineup and will be performing at this event and would love the support. She will be closing out her act with her popular dollhouse illusion. Again, we would love to see Café members, anyone from California Magic, or SAM 112 come on out to these two events. Thanks everyone and we hope to see you there! If you do come, please be sure to stop by and say "hi"! Magically yours, Kristen |

Thought I'd chime in with a heads up about this year's Newark Days- which is this weekend 9/18-9/21, and has the theme "It's Magic!" If you're in or around the Fremont area, come on by and check it out. http://www.newarkdays.org/
There'll be performances by magicians throughout the event, including Kent Family Illusions, Magic Dan, Rick Allen, and Tamaka & the Empress. (I'll possibly be wandering around watching some of the shows- though my wife and I have been too busy recently to be involved much this year.) -Erik

Hi everyone! Wow, its been awhile since this thread has been updated so I thought I would get it back up towards the top.
Hope everyone is doing well. Its been a long time since I've seen you Rich and I hope you-- and all the Calmagic family-- are doing well! We've really have to get Danielle's VIP membership renewed!! We've had a busy summer, but things are starting to settle down now so hopefully she and Dan will be back soon!! The show at the Julia Morgan Theatre went really nicely. An audience member from San Francisco actually taped Danielle's performance and put it up on YouTube. Imagine our surprise! If you would like to see her 10 minute video you can check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIw8pq5kTs0 Rich, I don't think you ever saw her perform on stage before. EsnRedshirt came out and saw her 2 (?) years ago at the Share the Magic Show at the Pleasant Hill Rec Center....... Speaking of which, this year's Share the Magic show will be on October 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Danielle will be performing again this year. If some of you are available we would love for you to come on out and support the show! I hope all is well with everyone! Take care and hope to catch up with some of you soon, until then, wishing you all the best! ~ Kristen |

I read about it in Joe's misdirections e-mail newsletter. I accidently deleted it and can't remember when or where it was. Any info would be great!

He is at the JCC in SF. I believe it is Nov 1st. This is his magic show, not another "evening with the author" like he did so many years ago. I think it was in the Palo Alto SAM Enews, but Joe might have picked it up too.
