I mind as well pop in here (thanks to Gaddy for making me aware of the thread). I'm up in Tracy, CA.! It's good to see so many others from the Bay Area on this great website!
Over two years ago, we started an internet store (MJM Magic) whose presence has grown quite large over the internet, simply by word of mouth from our customers. Some of you may have heard of it. (smile) In fact, I ran into NormanMagic (posted above) the other week at a fair in Pleasanton! He was performing (and doing a great job, by the way), while I was there with my wife and daughter enjoying all the kiddie rides! As for me personally, I have always been interested in magic, ever since I was a wee little tot. Not just magic (sleight of hand), but all things unknown (pyramids, paranormal activity, etc). I look forward to coming to the café daily to welcome all the new members, and read up on the "buzz" within the magic community. Feel free to contact me in private with any questions.
Your friend in magic,
Jeff Mash, CEO MJM Magic - "Magic for Magicians, Jokesters, and Mentalists!" http://www.MJMMagic.com |

Glen Micheletti also gives acting tutoring for magicians. A sadly underestimated skill for the Magician, but Glen will get you up to speed!

EsnRedShirt,
It was nice to meet you last night. Thanks for coming up and introducing yourself! Sorry, it was a little hectic last night. Zazz and I would have liked to have visited you a little longer and to have met your fiancee. Perhaps next time! Thanks for coming to the show. If you wouldn't mind, we'd love to have your feedback and perspective of Danielle's performance. Not sure if you picked up one of her promo cards or not, but her contact info is: magicbydanielle.blogspot.com Thanks, Kristen |

Kristen,
Thanks- it was good to meet you and your family as well. I apologize for not staying and chatting- my fiancee has a pinched nerve in her leg right now, and was in more than a bit of pain last night. She did tell me Danielle was her favorite act last night, though. I also particularly enjoyed the performance- I have a handkerchief routine myself, so it's always cool to see someone else's take on the effects. I'll check out the blogspot when I've got some more time and offer some constructive feedback if you'd like. Hopefully we'll see you around! -Erik PS to all the other Bay Area magicians- you missed a cool show!

Zazz and I only found out about it after the Share the Magic show when we went out with some of the other performers and our daughter for a LATE night dinner. Zappo (he's such a nice man) was telling us about it, which is why Zazz posted and shared the info hoping others might be able to attend. We would have loved to have gone also, unfortunately, we were already committed for today.
If anyone was able to attend, I would love to hear feedback on the event tho! |

There is also a gathering of magicians on pretty much ever Friday night at a home in Sunnyvale. There use to be, and I'm not sure if it still happens, a gathering in San Mateo at that Dennys or whatever it is or was on Hillsdale Exit off 101, which is the exit for Foster City.

Hey Rich,
No I don't currently belong to any local clubs. Would you be able to recommend any? I'm somewhat of a beginner (did it in high school but stopped to do other things) and just got back into it about a year ago. Thanks

Support one of San Francisco's finest new young artists - Christian Cagigal's The 13 Steps! I went to the show on Friday - it appeared to be sold out. It was the best show of it's genre I have seen in the Bay Area and Christian continues to develop and impress. Details are as follows:
Christian Cagigal's The 13 Steps: Tickets http://www.sffringe.org/now.html EXIT Theatre Presents Christian Cagigal's The 13 Steps EXIT Café FRI/SAT 8:30pm OCT 13 - OCT 28 Tickets $12 - $20 sliding scale at the door; $20 online tickets. Reservations at 415-673-3847 Online Tickets An intimate evening of close-up illusion, theater and mindreading guided by actor and award winning magician Christian Cagigal (Winnner Best of Fringe 2004-Magic @ the Fringe) "Close-up magic is the kind of theater where no 4th wall is allowed," says Cagigal, "With close-up magic you don't just watch the show, you are the show. You can't sit invisibly in the dark and safely contemplate what you are seeing; you are an active participent. What happens in the show happens to you." Christian Cagigal has had successful runs in both the 2003 and 2004 SF Fringe Festivals. He has consulted for The San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour (as seen in the SF Chronicle and the Travel Channel) as well as Crowed Fire and A.C.T.'s MFA Program. Cagigal is also a member of reknowned San Francisco Mime Troupe (no not that kind of mime) where he just finished a fantastic run as an actor and apprentice writer on this summers hit, Godfellas. But, starting October Friday the 13th Christian Cagigal returns to his roots with his next venture into the world of illusion or as he likes to call it, "..questioning reality..." Whether your are a strong believer or staunch skeptic 13 Steps promises to ask the question, "Do you really know what is fake and what is real?" ....what's your answer.........? "...emotionally affecting...." --Jean Shiffman-Backstage West "...intimate spectacle...it's no coincidence that "Cagigal" rhymes with "magical." -- Chloe Veltman-SF Weekly

Hi Everyone,
I've been posting on the Café for a couple of years, and only just recently stumbled across this thread (Hi Rich! And everyone else!). I start to get itchy when I sit at my computer too long, which is probably why it took me so long to find this thread. These days, I've mostly been hanging around California Magic Dinner Theater, doing tableside Friday nights, although I don't get there as much as I'd like, these days. I worked in San Francisco theater for about ten years, presenting my own theatrical magical work, and working as part of the staff at The Marsh in San Francisco. These days, I sit on the board of directors there, and am working on a holiday magic show we'll present there next month--more later. Aside from the V.I.P. club at California Magic, I also like going to SAM 94 meetings down in Palo Alto. Rory--you might be interested in checking them out. It's a good group for trying out new material, and there're some good performers in the group. Nice meeting you all, look forward to reading more (and posting more).
