I read in another thread that The Magic of Ascanio volume 2 (The Magic of Ascanio, Studies of Card Magic: Ascanio's Favorites) will be released during FISM next week.
Looking forward to buy my copy there.

See you all in 4 days in Stockholm

When is it on general release?
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

This is what Rafael Benatar said about two weeks ago over on the Genii Forum:

Quote:
Volume 2 is at the printers and should be out in a week or two. The website shows it as available because they're updating it ahead of time . The book will be first released at FISM, and shortly after in the US. I'll have some copies to sell at TAOM (Sep 1-4) and at my lecture at the Magic Castle on Sep 10.

Volume 3 will probably come out sometime in 2007 or whenever I can manage to finish the translation.

Actually...what the heck. Here's the table of contents as listed on the site:

Table of Contents
A Preface by Roberto Giobbi
Foreword by Aurelio Paviato
Chapter One: The Ascanio Spread and its Variants
Chapter Two: The Lay-Downs and their Combination with the Ascanio Spread
Chapter Three: Early Versions (Oil & Water, Father Ace and Sons Versions 66 and 67)
Chapter Four: His Mentors (Ascanio's handlings of effects by Kaps and Carles)
Chapter Five: His Comrades (Ascanio's handlings of effects by Dany Ray and Fu Manchu)
Chapter Six: Ed Marlo (Ascanio's handlings of effects by Marlo)
Chapter Seven: Beloved Favorites (If You Don’t Pay Attention…, Aunt Enriqueta’s Aces, The Trick I Would Show Dai Vernon, Sleightless Oil and Water (or so it seems), and Aces with Love)
Chapter Eight: Other Favorites (The Wriggling Aces and Don’t Blink! Revisited.)
Chapter Nine: Two Classics (A Baroque Transposition and The Mechanical Strength of Thought.)
Chapter Ten: Minor Masterpieces (Dolores’s Trick, The Pathology of Cards, X - 1 = 0, Triumph, Eight-Card Oil and Water, The Nine Facts, Antagonistic Aces, and A Hunger for Dreaming.)

Really looking forward to when this is available in the US.

From the dustjackets backside: "In this second volume of The Magic of Ascanio you will find a thorough study of the Ascanio Spread and its variants, Ascanio's methods for handling and tabling double cards, and a wealth of carefully studied and polished routines that are true masterpices, including several versions of Oil and Water and the Wiggling Aces, which was part of the act that awarded him first price at FISM in Amsterdam 1970.
Also included are several tricks Ascanio learned from his mentors Fred Kaps, Jean Carles, and Fu Manchu, and much more."

Peo,

Could you share with us some of the books you picked up at FISM?

Anything stand out?

Thanks.

Suprisingly enough I bought more DVD's (17) than books(6). Most of them was old ones, exept for the Ascanio book, which was released this week.
So that one stands out by all means.
Im really looking foreward to read it.

As a sidenote I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Richard Kaufman in his Genii booth, and I asked him what books are scheduled from his own company.
He told me that exept for the reprints of the Dingle, Roth, Hamman, and Levant books, next year will see the release of volume 2 in the Jennings triology. He is almost done writing it, and it will be much bigger than vol 1.
Later after that a book about Tenkai will be released. No date set yet about it.
