Simon Aronson's probably got the most info out on the memorized deck. Any of his books would have a bunch of effects using it. Juan Tamariz has one on his Lessons In Magic, Vol. 2 video, as well as on A-1 All-Stars, Vol. 3. Also, I believe that his book on the memorized deck will be coming out sometime next year (we're hoping!). Darwin Oritiz has three effects in his latest book. There's something in Michael Close's Workers, Vol. 5. There's probably some other resources out there, but that's all I can think off of the top of my head.

Martin,
I really injoyed reading your book "The Six-hour Memorized Deck".

I don't know if your stack is the best, just because it is the only one I know. One thing for sure is I learned it real fast (less than six hours}. And after not even touching it for about a four weeks I only missed two the 1st time through.

Now I have my eye out for effects that doesn't destroy the stack. Workers 5 is on the way.

No mather which stack someone chooses to learn, the best stack is the one he uses. Many thanks Russ for learning and using mine.

To add to (and probably overlap a bit) Mr. Joyal's list of memorized deck effects, check out the updated version of the list I keep:

Scott's list of memory-related effects

Keep in mind, these are memory effects in general. Many use memorized decks, but not all.

Thanks for your list of material, Mr. Joyal! I always enjoy finding more memory-related effects, so you've whetted my appetite quite a bit with your post!

I use the Aronson Stack, it really is the most supurb mememorised deck order I know of, and with a mass of books explaining both techniques and ideas using the stack it is such a great resourse. Go learn it!

>>> Scott,

Thanks for your comment. Your list is very I'mpressive and useful. You not only give the titles but also a description of the effect. Great work! You were lucky to put your hand on Zufall’s books.

Since you are interested in all memory-related effect , and considering the fact that your list contains pseudo-memory effects, here are some memory effect you might want to add to your list (if not already included).

Martin

A friend of mine has a stack that looks quite random (sample from the middle: 7H, 10D, 5S, 10C, 8H) but one only needs to learn a few very simple rules to know the position of any card. Is this fairly unique or are there other stacks that do this?

>>> Rob,

It seems that what you are referring to is a CARD SYSTEM and not a MEMORIZED DECK. This is not unique. There are many card systems based on mathematical calculations: Si Stebbins, Osterlind's Breakthrough Card System, Harding System, Berg Stack, Dyment's QuickStack, Gauci's 15 Minutes No Mnemonic Card System, Wild's System, just to name a few. In some of these systems, simple calculations based on a known card allows you to know the next one. In others, simple calculations allow you to translate a card to its position and/or a position to a card.

I recently had the priveledge to meet Darwin Ortiz and asked him for his opinion and recommendation on this very subject and I thought I would share this with the forum.

His answer was quite simple. He said too many magicians get hung up on this very subject of which stack is best, etc., etc. His suggests the best thing to do is not get hung up on which stack is best and just take a new deck and in-faro 4 times and memorize it and most importantly, use it. that's it.

I encourage anyone interested in memorized decks to read the essay: An Introduction to Full-Deck Stacks, which expands considerably on several issues related to this subject.
