I know we have a lot of smart folks around here. Has anyone ever auditioned for, or even been on the game show Jeopardy? I took the pre test today and passed. I got a call back for the big test and audition tommorow. If anyone has ever taken the big test and has any advice I'd love to hear it. I need all the help I can get.

Vandy it would be great to see ya get picked, go on the show, and rack up some serious cash. Wish you the best.
I don't even know if they are still taping current runs of the show but I was on standbye for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire but they haven't called. I hate the show but hey, answering easy questions for that kind of money is worth whoring myself out on national TV. I came a cross a Blog that said thousands are on the waiting list. Is that depressing or what! I also promised them I wouldn't make Regis have to nag me for my answer. You know how that goes "John Doe, I need an answer now....John? ....John we need an answer now...please pick one or call a friend...do something now John....TV ain't cheap ya know...." No sir, I would have an answer followed with a definitive "THAT IS MY FINAL ANSWER REGIS! SHOW ME DAH MONEY!".... Little bit of unknown trivia, did you all know Regis could of retired from showbusiness a billionaire way back in 1895 but continues working to this day because he's just a swell guy. Oh my god! the phone just rang. Gotta go. |

I've won millions of dollars from Jeopardy. Problem is, it has always been in my living room at home. If I were on the show for real, I'd probably wet my pants and run screaming from the room.
Best of luck. If you make it, remember all of us "little guys"... Amos McCormick

Telemarketer.
Vandy, I came across this site that addresses pre-show prep for contestants of "Jeopardy": http://www.pisspoor.com/jep.html Toward the bottom of the page are specifics that apply to those who've passed the initial interview. The show "Jeopardy" pushes it to the edge on time! Man, you either know the anser RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW! and then on to the next question with 2 seconds to answer. Ughh...no pressure there! On Who Wants to be a Millionaire they seem to give you what? Six weeks to come up with a single answer. Big difference. I can't be on "Jeopardy" as I need, say, an extra five seconds on each question. I know a lot of the answers but my recall takes a few extra seconds and that'll get ya killed on the show. I'm the guy who remembers EVERYTHING but has to snap his fingers several times, tap his right foot, and stare at the floor thinking in order for the right answer to come to me. Alex would not like me very much. "Uhm....I'll take "Magic History" for $1,000 and a Daily Double"..... |

Thanks for the site Randy. There is some good info there. I'm not feeling very strong right now. I took the pre test on the spur of the moment and I haven't prepeared for todays test at all. I should brush up on some things, but it's too late now. We'll see how it goes in a couple of hours.
Randy, I know what you are saying about recall. I sometimes have trouble spitting the answer out on time. But I can usually get it, if I know the answer. I watched the show last night and killed in single Jeopardy, but I was half a beat too late on most of the double Jeopardy answers. So I'm not very confident. But I'll give it a shot anyway. I may be putting myself at a disadvantage right off of the bat. The paperwork says I should dress as I would for an actual apperance on the show. I'll be ***ed if I'm going to get all dressed up on a Sunday morning to sit around for who knows how long down there. I'll dress decent, but I'm wearing shorts. If they don't like it...tough. LOL

If you really hope to have a chance to get on the show, I would do what the instructions say. No sense in killing your chances because you couldn't follow instructions.
Good luck!

From what I've heard, a lot of the success has to do with the timing of your buzzer. A split second too soon and you're locked out for a couple of seconds or a split second late, someone jumps in. Get that timing down and go for it.
Best of luck..lets hope you get some categories like Potent Potables/Sports/Westerns and they leave out the Ballet questions. |

I'm back. I missed the cut.
I'm ****ed because I was actually more confident after the 50 question test than I was after the pre-test. I knew a bunch of the answers COLD. But I guess I didn't hit enough of my guesses because I didn't get through. Bummer. Now I have to wait a full year before I can try again. But I will try again and I WILL pass that *** test. I shall return with a VENGENCE! LOL As Pete Biro would say "Stay Tooned", I will make my date with destiny.

Well you're not the first to have it happen and I'm impressed with your efforts thus far! Too bad we don't have LETS MAKE A DEAL with Monty Hall to fall back on while awaiting our next stab at Jeopardy.
You know this reminds me of an episode of Oprah who had guests that made unbelievable amounts of money entering contests. Now what these people did to win and make millions is very very uncommon. I know I never considered it and, well, not really willing to do it but the proof was in the pudding' for them. She had ladies (yes many were stay at home moms who were just putting extra time to use as if they had any) who would enter contests hundreds of times, clip and mail every possible entry form, tuned into dozens of radio stations, flying from one studio to another to try out for game shows and on and on. Even Oprah said she wouldn't have the know how, discipline, and much less the energy to do this but these little lady's were raking in 1,2,and 3 million dollars! Unbelievable. Oh and lets not forget the one who had a mile long list of stuff she'd won to include: *Beach House *Boats *Several luxury cars *Cash And on and on.... The entire audience was thrilled to hear that they were able to do it but once we found out what they had to do to WIN it, I don't think there was a single audience member who still wanted to try. Hahahahaha! Now let's take my mother for instance. She's always been a career woman but I've always joked about her reading every single little bit of junk mail and or coupons in boxes etc. We all agree that she has a knack for winning stuff. Here's a list of things she's won by mailing the entry form: *Caribbean Cruise vacation *Several weeks’ total stays at Vegas and Louisiana Casinos *Dell Computer *One-year free oil change That list is for year 2005! The last one was the Dell computer. She and I were talking about my pleasant experience on the phone with Dell Computer Company. I told her I was buying a new processor for my computer. Told her that the tech support was very knowledgeable about what I was trying to do and that my purchase was an overall good experience. She was shuffling through papers and said, "Oh, here it is and yes, it is DELL! I just won a home PC from them". What! I told her we could believe it when she received it. I visited a couple of months later and she asked if I would open and set up the new PC in the study. It was the one she had won by simply mailing in the entry form! Ugh.... she has some luck all right! |

Thanks Randy,
I know a guy who used to do the same thing with the contests/etc. He also used to submit jokes and stories to Readers Digest. I don't think he ever got published, but he did used to win a bunch of stuff. To really win that stuff, you usually have to expend so much energy and do so much work, it's easier just to try and earn the money to buy the stuff! LOL. Unless, like your Mother, You just happen to be lucky at that kind of thing. I've never tried out for a gameshow before, and I wouldn't really want to be on any other show besides Jeopardy. I don't even want to win a ton of money. I'm a competitor and a gambler, it's the game that fuels my fire, not the prize. Prizes are just a byproduct of winning, it's the winning that is important. I just want to make the show and test myself against some of these other guys. Many people including several champions did not pass on their first try, so I still have hope. Maybe I should take of of Harry Loryanes memory systems.

I don't know about any memory system helping you for a show like this. This is a matter of the contestant being educated enough and (the part I lack) a fast recall of the information so they answer before others or that annoying buzzer goes off.
A refresher is one thing but having to memorize the History of the World is another. |

See if they'll let you write down the response on a small pad of paper, then after they tell you the correct response, you can show them if you were right.
Good Luck Buddy! BTW What response would you give if Alex said: A: I was the greatest magician of all time.

I have a really great memory for trivia...if I read it or hear it I remember it. There is one exception, anything on TV up until the late 80's and very little after that and nothing about sports.
