Hi All!
This Saturday I am shooting a new demo video. It is my current twenty minute show. My friend Martin Lewis is kindly shooting the video for me in his home. He has such great digital video and editing equipment, the same that he shoots his videos with that..... unless I suck, the video should come out well. For a good demo I need an audience. I have room for more! So anyone in So. Cal is welcome to join us If you want to come (and laugh and clap!) please contact me, you are welcome to join us. My contact info is on my web site http://www.zandermagic.com or just shoot me an email. Thanks
Thank you,

Wow John,
sounds like Martin is using a good Sony digital, or maybe even a Cannon XL! Sure wish I could be there! I wish you the best of luck, and let us all know how it turns out!

In the biz, a 20 minute demo is 15 minutes too long.
A great demo tape should be no more than 5 minutes from beginning to end. Don't show complete effects on tape, but smash or flash cut to many effects and audience shots and a great music overlay. Something upbeat... Audience reaction shots are great to sell yourself to bookers and potential TV Casting Directors. Keep it short, entertaining. |

What I do on my demo tape is show five minutes of disjointed clips, like Riley, then afterwards I show my complete manipulation act, which is my staple routine.

Riley..
Great advice.. If you don't grab the viewer in the first 60 seconds, it doesn't matter how great your closing effect is because they won't see it. In the Visual Effects industry, one great 5 second animation can get you a job.. I have always said that you base your demo on HCPM's... Holy Cruds per minute.. ;-> Note: Cruds has been inserted for the more family oriented.. ;-> Less is more.. At the end of every demo reel they should be wanting to see more.. If you give them everything, then they have no reason to call you. I guess it all comes down to setting objective for your video.. Determine what you want to accomplish with it and let that dictate how you produce it. Good luck with the video. Gambit242 Canon GL2 Video Toaster [3] LightWave 3D |
