If you had to name the most important invention in mentalism history, which would win?
I would choose the center tear/peek. Anabelle |

The "No Refunds or Returns Policy".
Without it all the dealers would have gone out of business years ago, and we'd have no way to feed our habit. |

Going along with the cryptic answers... I'll say that the best invention has to be the ****...
Ok seriously, I think the most important invention/discovery of mentalism, if not the best, is just the premise that minds can be read. From that one premise, you can have your psychics, your Gellers, your ghost-whisperers and what not. All based on the belief that you create - the belief that I can know what someone else is thinking. Mentalism can still survive without the NW, the CT, without PK effects, without NLP, without AN or any other p**** for that matter, but the moment that people stop believing that you, the mentalist can read thoughts, everything else is pointless. It's then just a trick. (And I truly suspect that the first cases of "psychic" abilities are really the first cases of mentalism. Yes, I'm a skeptic, but only to a certain extent, and am not going to be going around testing people or pointing fingers and demanding witchhunt.) |

Maddened beat me to the punch. The invention (or the creation of the belief) that minds can be read, objects moved without normal physical force, and that the supernatural exists is the greatest invention of mentalism.
P.S. The human brain is not an invention (nor a creation) but a biological development. The human mind, on the other hand, is an invention.
