Did anyone catch Wednesday's episode of Mindfreak?
Criss performed Malloy's Master Prediction System. Maybe you didn't recognize it since the beautiful wood grain design that Doug makes was nothing more than a gray box with aluminum trim. Anyway, I thought is was spectacular and proved to be a great choice by Criss's team to perform it the way they did! If you haven't seen it yet, check it out at http://www.malloymodernmagic.com (Doug has a performance clip of himself doing the hilarious routine) I was wondering if anyone else has purchased this and if you've developed different variations/ routines for performance? Even though I am already dead-set on buying one from Malloy, I'd love to hear some of the Pro's and Con's of this effect! -Bryan Gilles |

Just watched the routine. Looked great - I wish I had $3000 to spend on one.

Lets give credit where credit is due. It's not Malloys Prediction System but rather Dick Zimmermans Prediction system being sold by Malloy.

I think the routine is great - but definitely not worth the 3 grand. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that any mentalist or magician can perform the exact same effect using their own method, which could be built for under $200.

Also Wellington makes a nice model which packs smaller than Doug's.
Mindfreak is not shown in Finland, so if someone posts the prediction to Youtube or similar, I'd appreciate a link.

RSD: I am very sorry but you cannot build this kind of system for $200!!! I saw it at the Hank Lee convention and trust me when I say it is so good!!! A lot of pro's at the convention looked at it, and also didn't think it was worth the 3 grand, until they showed how it was done! Then everyone's jaw dropped and smiled and said, "Ahhh, yes its worth it!!!" This is not an overdone method of Postcards from the road!!!

Bryan it is worth getting you can do so much with this system....have it hanging in a plubic place for 5 days as a promotional stunt and you can have the headline predicted or names of people in the audience or anything your mind can think of!

Hey Guys,
I use Malloy's version of the "Zimmerman Master Prediction System" for all my corporate shows. The nature of the effect allows me to "customize" this for each group and for the occasion! For corporate audiences, this is worth it's weight in gold. It's really neat to be able to have a prediction that involves people's names, company slogans, goals the company may be trying to reach, etc. The possibilities are endless. It is always one of the most talked about items in my show...It's just too impossible to reconstruct...In other words it must be real magic! I simply cannot recommend this prop highly enough...Worth every penny! I hope this helps, Cody S. Fisher

How do the Malloy version and the Wellington version compare?

I have discussed this version with Doug on the phone. It is a great item and one with unimaginable prediction values. I think with some real thought it could be a reputation maker! Can you say Presidential Election?

Lusion, I didn't say that the actual gimmick by the builders can be recreated for under $200 - At least that is not what I meant. I meant I can duplicate this exact same effect using my own method, that is just as effective, and looks similar. I built my method for under $200.

Actually I think there are two ATA cases. Wellington's version includes just the table, box and prediction tube. The table breaks down and everything fits into a single ATA case. Also they are a bit different from each other. Both look really good.

I have been using the wellington and it is one of the most talked about effects in the show. It is very well made and will last. Highly recommended. I've never seen the Malloy so I can't do a direct comparison.

I looked at the Wellington and decided on Doug's. Doug's looks better, more expensive looking, sturdier looking. The table does break down. It takes two cases because he also furnishes a stand for the case and the dry erase board. It only makes sense to pack it in two cases. I love it and the performance goes over great. Both are priced about the same but I thought Doug's looked better.

Can either of these be performed solely or is an assistant required?
Thanks, Dan. |

They both need an offstage assistant. You could do without but that's not near as strong as with an assistant.

Mika,
Thanks That's what I was expecting. Doug has a performance video on his website and this looks like a great routine. Dan. |

Chris' performance was a perfect example of how to take a simple effect and turn it into a giant spectacle worth remembering. That was great.
For those who haven't seen his show live, 'Reza' (www.magicreza.com) performs a version with a series of predictions on a VHS video tape that is fantastic.

Jusy saw a new product on Hocus-Pocus, called Dream Prediction by Paul Romhany, it seems cool. Without offstage helper, but has a similar effect with the prediction system!
