This video has high remarks from ever review I've read, yet it's easy to 'guess' how it's done by watching the demo video. Why would this video get such high reviews from everyone if the method is easy to figure out? I've ordered this dvd and I'd be glad to write an honest to god unbiased review on it once it shows up. That being said, I'm no fool to bill changes. I'm dissapointed if some of the most prominent magicians on this board are giving biased reviews to earn marks or just because they are friends with the creator. Magic isn't politics or religion and if I feel like I've been sold out by false reviews even before receiving the DVD, I'll be the 1st one to speak up if it's not up to par.
P.S. My best friend once came up with a great idea on how to make new car tires using a gel instead of air. I was the first one to tell him it MIGHT NOT BE SAFE.
How many Magicians does it take to advertise a trick? Three.. One to steal the trick. One to steal HIS trick. And one to write a good review.

Well, if you've read some of the other posts, you would know that a lot of people are saying it looks a lot better in person than it does on video. This is true for the majority of effects out there since the camera is usually a fixed, unblinking eye which you can't exactly misdirect.
The change looks very good to me. I'm thinking about a purchase. But Why the heck did you buy the thing if you aren't impressed with it?

Ok....People's reviews are their own thoughts on how the product is and how they like it, not how anyone else likes it. If you think reviews are FALSE don't read them and stop whining like a little girl. What did you think reviews were for? I am in no way in any connection with Bob Sheets, my review was not on anyone's side but my own

Fooksau, all I can say is Bob Kohler isn't interested in a fast buck versus his reputation. He know what great, in their face magic is. I base that on products that he's released and that I use.

I wasn't trying to sound whiny or complaining in any way. And I'm not accusing Bob of trying to make a fast buck or saying that the effect is bad. Hell, I purchased the video based on reviews that I read before I had a chance to see the preview (why only magicwarehouse? has the preview). I just think I've seen far too many reviews on different effects (some of these I've purchased), in which the reviewer leaves out important points such as if the effect resembles another. All I'm trying to say is that if this video is basically the Juan Hundred bill change with a different ending then I will review it how it is. Respectfully I might add.
Blindside785 whining like a little girl is better than whining like a man.

You have to expect the manufacturer/distributor to market their product and sometimes posts on this forum are over-enthusiastic with their praise - and there's a snowball effect. As a result, there's a degree of expectation that can result in disappointment.
Although I think this switch looks better 'live' than on video - it isn't the ultimate in bill switches. Skullkracker has a number of limitations that aren't there with other methods - though the converse is also true, to be fair. The necessary preparation of the bills means that Skullkracker is not as easy to do with borrowed bills. However, the one advantage that it does have over some other methods is the ability two switch different sized bills. I'm sympathetic with fooksau's viewpoint - there's nothing worse than spending your hard-earned cash and feeling let-down. On the other hand, you have to give it a try; the worst-case scenario is that you have a second method of doing the switch even if it isn't your favourite. The glass is half full, not half empty!
I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I only lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three. Elayne Boosler

To each his own...I usually like anything BK puts out but I will pass on this one, it just doesn't look better than the bill switch I already use.

Fooksau- I will go out and say that I am glad you posted this, because I was getting the same feeling...Meaning that it SEEMS that some people post high remarks of an effect because they are friends or want brownie points with the creator. This was true with the "Prime Cut DVD."
Either way, I look forward to your review.

Posting this on a different thread but same basic discussion:

Good for you. That is what this board is all about. People having a good discussion that gives the good and bad on a certain effect. My opinion was just that...my opinion on an effect that I thought was 1)Well thought out; 2)A new twist; 3) Something that as a performing magician I will defintely use. Is my opinion worth more than anyone else's? Nope. But I thought it was well done. Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On 2006-08-19 17:31, shaunproof wrote: Of course the methods are similar. Folding the bill protects side angles. The pronounced creases didn't help either. Just don't buy into all of the hype here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where's the hype? Hype is the type of thing you see when Black Widow or Electric Touch or something like that comes out, and people build it up for it's release. All of the posts I have seen so far about Skullkracker are either from people who have it and liked it, or from people that don't have it, but were impressed when they saw Bob do it, and based on that now want to buy it. I don't personally have a problem with people having a negative opinion about an effect or posting a negative review. But then again, I won't value that opinion unless I know the person reviewing it has the product. Obviously, some people haven't paid attention to what was written before. Focusing on a tight camera angle doesn't get the effect across. The discussion Bob goes into on how a spectator looks and moves his/her eyes is what fools them in person, and I can now attest to that after having done this. Also, like has also been stated, there are 7 versions of this, one which is called the Oooze Switch that is just unbelievable to see in person. Positive and negative reviews are what this board needs. Pointless discussion that it must only be getting positive reviews because we may be friends of the creator is ridiculous. But I will say this....I have never met Bob Kohler. Never spoken with him on the phone. Don't know the man personally at all. But 2 of his releases are featured prominently in my stand-up show and one is my bread and butter routine that has gotten me many repeat corporate events, and 3 of the last DVD's I bought from him had a lot of usable material on them. I use material from every one of them in my strolling gigs. So if I say something positive about the quality of video or material, then I must believe that Bob does put out quality material, and that is why I am willing to take the chance to check out his next product, unlike if someone puts out complete crap. I like that in a time when there is a complete gluttony of crap in the magic marketplace, that some people actually take the time to put a real thought out product together. The Final Answer put out by Bob Kohler, as well as Skullkracker, are two products that just didn't give you a new way of doing something, but spent time talking about the history of the effects, the different types of currency, different folds, different loading methods, different performing situations....basically, everything you could ever want to know on how to do one effect. That is a hallmark of a quality product. I look forward to Fooksau's thoughts after he has a chance to watch the DVD, and hopefully, maybe try out the method and see what a layman thinks before really deciding how he liked the product. I am sure Bob Kohler is as well. |

Bravo Michael,
There is way too much hype before something is even released and even more gushing about effects. I am all for positive reviews. Given a few myself. I am even more in favor of honest adnd constructive negative reviews... Help us all take care of each other and protect us from hype related purchases!!! |

This last weekend I did it maybe 10 to 15 times for a variety of people and a variety of places. It was a winner - the exact same effect (maybe a tiny bit stronger) as the thumbtip change, I believe, but oh-so-much easier to carry around. I'm not going to carry a thumbtip anymore. No hype. The only thing that can't be done is to change it back to what it originally was - it's a one-time change. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is the way a bill change should go. I used it to change a $1 to a $100 bill, and a mis-made bill back into a $1 (I get into the mis-made without a visual change, but through another routine). This is one of the best working changes I've come across in a long while. Also, I don't pre-prepare my bills. I just fold them into the necessary folds, work them a few times by doing the change (just to make sure the folds are tight enough) and they're ready to go.

I don't have time right now to go into it right now, but I was thoroughly unimpressed with this. It's exactly as I expected it would be. I'll break down my thoughts on a later date. There are some good points but mostly bad.

IMHO it is DEFINATELY overhyped. The instructions was not clear, it seemed rushed, stupid jokes which was better left out, a lot of behind the scenes moves (unlike when using TT). The only thing good about this switch is the fact that it can be done with different sized/colour currency. Other than that, it is just another bill switch. It should be inside the Switch book rather than a DVD on its own. Again this is just MY OPINION.

Why are people like MagicChris referring to this as a Bob Kohler product. It's Bob Sheets.
