Hi guys I need some advice. I own a case for when I do a comedy magic set, though at the moment I am using a chair to put the case on, so its sits at right hight, so I do not have to keep bending down.
I need to know if there is a portable table or stand I can use? I am just annoyed that everytime I perform I have to carry a chair with me. Please help Josh

I use a compact, foldable bar stool that I got at Wal Mart for $10. It works very well. There is also a little aluminum table in their camping section that is lightweight and folds flat. It was a little bit shorter than the stool, but it's a nice table. I think it went for about $16.

Hi Josh:
Here's something that might work for you - it's a bit pricey, but I believe Denny Haney and Joel Bauer use these: http://www.instand.com/cr5/cr5.html I think they look very sleek and professional. Ron |

Hi Josh,
I have 2 suggestions for you 1) Get yourself an "X" type keyboard stand and get a piece of plywood that is long and wide enough to span across the top of the stand. You can cover the plywood in fabric to blend in with the stand. 2)Get a microphone stand. Make sure it has the tripod base. You'll also need a 5/8" mic flange and a piece of plywood that is just slightly larger than the bottom side of your case. Find the center of the plywood and mount the flange to it.(Again you may wish to cover the plywood with fabric). Then just screw the top of the mic stand into the flange. Now you have an inexpensive portable table that you can take anywhere , and still looks professional |

I the 2nd Keyboard stand suggestion - very sturdy, and they are usually a dark grey color, so they don't attract attention away from you!

I use a restaurant tray stand. It holds my duffle bag, or other prop case, high enough for me.
Some performers use folding camp stools, if a lower height is desired. |

Here's a thought. This is somewhat pricey, but you and your audience could have fun with it. It's a jumping stool. Use the stool as a stand for your case, and when you're done, take your case off, then step on the stool causing it to bounce up into the air. You then catch it and take your bow.

These are all good ideas. However, do not underestimate the utility of a folding chair. They are always available wherever you perform. Therefore, it is one less thing that you will have to carry. Mac King keeps his case on a chair in every show. Jeff McBride recommends using a chair in his Commando act.

I use a mic stand/table like Brian mentioned above. I built my own, but you can buy tripod-based tables from magic shops.
I also bought one of those barstools from Walmart that jkvand mentioned. It is black, and it matches my tables so it looks nice. I don't use the stool at every performance, but I use it for spectators or myself to sit on for a few certain routines. I also sit things on it sometimes. It is inexpensive and it folds up flat so it is easy to transport. Regan
