Hi!
Who be from you or from your friends bought Impaled illusion from Dominik (Italy)? http://www.dominikmagic.com/English/payp......m037.htm I wish to take advice about this model. |

I have seen it at a dealer I Belgium, VERY small, very close to the floor. Doesn't strike me as being a reliable, and comfortable illusion to perform. The video clip on his site actually proves the same. I can't even see the sword penetrating her body. Only the girl sinks down. Haven't tried it myself though.

Fabrice -
while Studio Dom products may be in need of "tuning" when acquired, those I have are servicable. Copyright problems -- if this is based upon most of his offerings -- you would have few problems -- as almost everything he "knocked off" was previous to or never attained "copyright" or patent status. IN one case (the plank and ladder) it is my understanding he and Walter Blainey (the originator) had no written agreement of confidentiality or trade secret when Dom purchased his, and Walter at the time had no patent, (Copyright would NOT cover the mechanics - only possibly presentation). I have the latter (acquired as part of an estate sale from the widow of a friend) and had to put several hundred of $$ work into it to improve it to work on sand or lawn...and to take heavier spectator weights. BUT - I have never purchased ANY illusion that has not needed some tuning for regular use.

I don't know about the builders reputation but the picture looks like a dangerious illusion. The base is so small it looks like it could tip easily.

Everything this guy builds is pretty poor in quality to be honest.

Anyone who purchases a set of ladders that is made by anyone other than Walter Blaney is going to get exactly what he pays for -- junk. Walter spent 30 years perfecting that illusion before he even sold one to David Copperfield. If Dom claims he purchased one from Walter without a confidentiality agreement or NDA, he is lying.
I have been in Blaney's workshop when he was making these things. He spends more for just the special pieces than Dom or any of the other knockoff artists spends for the whole illusion. Yes, it can be made cheaper. But it won't work as well and it won't last as long. And you have the danger of part of it cracking at the worst possible moment.
