Fakini recommends storing the balls with the tube lying down.
If the tube is standing up the bottom ball has the weight of all the others on top of it. At least that is what I was told. I have both 1 3/4" and 2".

Frank!
I think you hit on the problem. The balls were kept in the tube (standing)on a shelf. As a matter of fact they sat there for at least a year until you made a leather cone for me (a beautiful piece) in a size to fit the balls for the Vernon Ball and Cone Routine! I'm still working to combine the two routines. Thanks Frank!

The cone and ball is a beautiful routine. Will be getting one from Frank too.

I have recently purchased some Fakini Balls but have not recieved them yet. As stated earlier in this post, I too was one that started with the small wooden multiplying balls, oh I would say, 10 years ago! (I was only 15 at the time) and I feel that a deck of cards would fall out of my hands less than the balls would so I stuck with the cards. After hearing so much good reviews reguarding the Fakini's I'm excited to get my hands on these.
Illusionist "Reza" replied with "YES,THEY ARE THE BEST!" When I asked him if that's what he was using last year in his show. You can see them in his current promo video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q_g30xDTjs They show up very well.

Congratulations, AnthonyMaze. You now have one of the finest billiard balls set and would not have any regrets with them.

Here are the drawbacks with Fakinis:
Since the fakini's "stick" to material (which can also be a benefit) ball/silk moves are a bit more difficult. The she**s are thicker and more noticeable. They don't "clack" together like wooden balls. Cost.

The "trick" to using them with silk moves is to learn to roll the balls rather than slide them. For example, stroking a silk to produce the ball requires the ball to roll within the silk and not slide. The sh**'s are thicker but with a little concentration to detail, the back of them need not be shown and therefore the thickness is irrelevant. True, they do not "clack" like wood balls but it isn't really necessary to prove the balls to be solid. A bounce, a toss or a rolling move is just as convincing in my opinion. Yes, they are expensive but you get what you pay for. The question was asked about the best size to use. The answer is the largest you can handle and then a little bit larger. I started with the 1 3/4" size and found that using the 2" ones made all of the moves so much easier. I've now moved on to the 2 1/4" size. The larger ones are actually easier to use. I found that when graduating to a larger size, it helps to just hold a ball between the fingers and not do anything else. I do it while watching TV. This stretches the fingers. Once I'm comfortable with the stretch, I move the ball to the next fingers. The next step is to hold two balls and so forth. Once you use the larger balls, you'll never go back.

I purchased my first 1 3/4" set (+ one extra ball) and started using them a couple of months ago.
I had been using the standard Vernet set up until then (and still use them every so often even today). I am finding it very hard to get used to Fakinis since I had been using Vernet for about 10 years (almost daily). I find the Fakini quite slippery (and thus risky) when I use them under a spot lighted stage, where my hands tend to sweat a little. When my hands are dry, they are fine. When my hands sweat, I find it hard to roll the ball between my fingers and in and out of the s---l. I love the fact that they bounce (with a thud) proving their solidness etc. I love them when I can handle them in the right conditions (i.e. when my hands are at normal temperature). I get great audience reactions when I do my routine but no more or better than when I did my Vernet routine (which is slightly different because I also use a Vernet hank ball, which Fakini does not have available.) I am going to use Daves 'streching' excersise but, as of yet, do not agree that the bigger they are, the easier they are to handle. In fact, even though the big white balls are very visible from stage, I can actually see myself prefering to go for, and try, the smaller 1 1/2" Fakini. So, I took the plunge, love the balls but find them harder to handle than the Vernet. (Vernets are also terribly hard for me to handle when my hands are sweating or dry - they really need to be somewhere in he middle and I suppose that is also the same with Fakini balls). Do you have any tips for keeping hands at a normal heat level? (i.e. how can I stop them from sweating? how can I keep them from getting really dry without having to put a moist cream on them that makes my hands wet and slippery before a show?) Thanks, Dani |

Wash the balls every time before you use them so you eliminate the dirt stuck on the balls that make them slippery. When the balls are clean they cling to your hand.
As to sweaty hands, I suggest micro-fibre cloth as they take away sweat very well. Google will provide you with good sources. I use this cloth because I don't want my hands to have any cream or lotion on them as I move on to card manipulation after my balls manipulation. If you don't do card manipulation after the ball routine then lotions that are recommended at the Café can be useful to you. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the tips JamesTong. I will try that.
regarding washing the balls: I have seen some posts here that recommend anything from water to soap to other detergints. What would you say the best way to is to wash them? I bought and use a 70% alcohol antiseptic to clean my silicon juggling balls. Do you think this would be ok for the Fakini balls as well or should I just rinse in plain water? |

I got the Fakini's this weekend and am thoroughly impressed!
I understand what your saying danryb, If I were to sweat really bad I could see them wanting to slip off. So I plan to practice out in the sun for a while, see if my handling changes at all. Im really impressed with them overall though. Has anyone had an issue with the S**LL sticking? I can't remember where I have seen it but someone suggested a dab of something in the S**LL to make it easier to seperate but I don't remember what the material was. Its nice when its snug (you can toss and juggle, whatever you want practically), but eventually the effect must go on! Any suggestions? I was reading about hinged balls. Does anyone know anything about these? Where you could purchase a set? Cheers!

I need some advice. My hands sweat. A LOT. So much so that I can't even hold on to my balls, and I cannot perform with them! I have not seen any cream or products and such that have to do with sweaty, slippery clammy hands. It seems that vast majority of the magic community has the exact opposite, dry hands. I would give a lot of money to have that problem! Any advice is helpful.
Thanks, Brian |

Microfiber cloth not only help take away sweat but also remove dirt, grease and oil from your hands or the balls very well, just before the performance. With this cloth I don't even have to worry about creams or lotions or whatever. Google microfiber and you can get them easily.

Autozone has microfiber cloths for roughly $7-10. Works well to buffer to a nice shine!

It is amazing what the micro-fiber can do. Google for more information and you would want them. I have been using them for some time and certainly helped me a lot.

The solution I found worked for me was rosin. I just pat a rosin bag on my fingers before performing and I don't have a problem.

You can stick a piece of felt, available at any craft shop, inside the shell to keep it from sticking.
