There used to be a demo movie (Quicktime) of Cellini performing it at this link:
http://tinyurl.com/myzjf but it seems to be loading very , very slowly . May just be a server issue. It took a long time to load and play for me just now and I'm on a very fast internet connection . Give it plenty of time to load up. It's not a large movie , so I don't know why it seems to be taking so long to play . Anyway, check it out and see if the movie plays for you. Hope that helps. |

David,
The first link you provided worked for me, but the second did not. I will say that the demo loaded VERY slowly...almost 5 minutes and I have very high speed access (3MB/s). So they might have a very slow connection. I believe it's freezing for you because you've caught up (by playing the video) to the point it's downloading. Give it some more time, is what I suggest. As for the demo, the routine looks pretty good, well worth someone's consideration if properly placed within a routine. I'm definately thinking about it.

Looks like a great effect.
What would make this super nice is if the glass was empty to begin with and when it reappeared it was full with a drink. |

This link may work a little better for some of you. The demo looks pretty good to me. I wonder what is included in the trick. Note that you will have to hit the space bar to make the video start playing.

Its a very simple gimmick that will fit to most flat bottomed glasses. This effect is usually performed using a standard wine glass taking advantage of its natural styling to make the effect possible...this gimmick opens the range of glasses up to perform this effect with...its an effective illusion when performed in the correct manner.
This Cellini gimmick has been out for years now I first saw it at an international magic convention a good 7-8 years ago maybe more.

Thanks for the info mark. I think the trick looks great. Can you rate its degree of difficulty on a scale 1-10?

However, I do like the idea of being able to do it with a variety of glass styles, so I'd probably buy the marketed version with gimmick. Like a lot of things that are very simple (loop ball for example) in Cellini's hands it looks beautiful, but effortless. I would expect to put in quite a bit of rehearsal time to be able to do this convincingly. |

Tester2006: rating I would say 3-10 with 10 being very difficult...its basically easy to work it but good practice is needed to make it the illusion it needs to be.
David Todd: Its an old impromptu trick that has been updated with this gimmick for most glasses. Its a very worthwhile addition to any act. Cellini makes things magical and effortless..strive for that.

I have a question about this gimmick.
Do you think it could be use to vanish a Billiard Ball? Thanks! |

An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

On Aug 30, 2006, markparker wrote: This old thread popped up in a search I was doing for something else related to Cellini. I never did purchase the Cellini gimmick for the Vanishing Glass (Glass Go) , but I found the impromptu version using a wine glass in 'The Magic of Michael Ammar'. (Also , reprinted in MUM Vol. 103 No. 9, February 2014.) Ammar says: "The original concept comes from Tony Miller and Brian Congrove. Through the years, I've added some touches, and the instantaneous, visual vanish of the glass is beautiful.". Ammar's version doesn't reproduce the glass the way Cellini does, but instead he writes: "On stage the glass can be dumped into a top hat, taken by an assistant, or any number of things. The aid of a friend can be enlisted to help completely vanish the glass in close-up, impromptu situations, because the illusion of the glass melting away is just as great when done close-up. Having the right scarf is the most important part of the vanish. If the scarf isn’t big enough, the glass may move it as you perform the move for the vanish and possibly cause you to drop the scarf. If the scarf is too big, the glass is kind of lost in it." Cellini performs and explains his version briefly in his video lecture available from International Magic. He shows the gimmick, but doesn't explain how to make it, so you're on your own with that. I did not make the gimmick exactly as Cellini shows it in his lecture, but made my own variation on it. As noted above, it's not "difficult" to perform, but the timing does need to be precise. In the advertising for the marketed version of the effect it is suggested: "The glass may even be borrowed". Yes,perhaps, BUT be sure you have examined the glass first , because it needs to be a glass with a flat bottom and not too heavy, although I do think it is important that it is real glass (not plastic), because you get that very satisfying "clink-clink" sound when you flick it with your fingernail under the cloth before it vanishes (as in Cellini's performance on YouTube ) The glass Cellini uses in his International Magic lecture is an appropriate size. |
