Hi everyone:

I recently embarked on a new adventure. After just seeing one to many Hollywood type special effects in magic shows on television I decided to create something a little more tangible and fair for the viewers at home. So now I am experimenting with creating magic under a set of strict rules and shooting it with my camera phone. I upload the videos to youtube.com directly from my camera phone. They are raw and unedited and do not use any post production. Here is a link to the page where you can find them:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=DB3DD9076D172100

I follow a strict set of rules to make it as fair as possible for the viewers to play with these "visual riddles" After posting the first one (The Umbrella) I received more than 500'000 views within 12 hours and got voted #1 viral video of the week by TVweek. I am 5 days into this now and received more than 2 million viewers and close to 1000 subscribers!

Many people have emailed me and asked me for the rules. So here they are:

PhoneCam Magic Manifest

1. The magic has to be shoot in a single continues take. Pausing of the camera is not permitted.

2. Any post processing, editing, trimming is not permitted.

3. The sound must never be post-produced apart from the images or vice versa. (Music must not be used unless it occurs where the magic is being shot).

4. The camera must be hand- held by the magician for the start and the end of the movie. Handing off, placing down or mounting of the camera is permitted.

5. Special lighting is not acceptable unless it is shown to the audience as part of the magic plot. (If there is too little light for exposure a single lamp can be attached to the camera.)

6. Optical work and filters are forbidden unless they are shown to the audience and part of the magic plot.

7. The movie format must be digital.

8. The magic must be all original to best knowledge of the creator/magician. Marketed tricks or other magician’s material is not permitted.

Please check it out and let me know what you think !

Best regards,
Marco Tempest

Hi Marco,

Those are pretty nice and cool videos. A new approach for magic for TV I might say. Hope to see some more!

Happy Magic!

As usual with Marco: Originality!!! Love to see that!! It's great to see someone trying to do their own thing instead of copying what's already out there. Great stuff and great thinking!!!

Thank you for all your comments. Smile
I will post 2-3 more of them in a few days.

Chris Starr: I am using a Nokia N73. There is a better one out already (Nokia N93) which would record at DVD quality. But I do like the raw, low quality look of the one I am using right now.

It's a very interesting project and very different from the magic you'll usually see on TV. I look forward to the next episode Marco!

Very creative, and even some of the slew of parodies crack me up, also. You know you have made it when people parody you so boldly.
