I am looking for the Dream Bag Jumbo stage size with the brown bag. I know there is a lot of junk out there, I am looking for the best where you can fold the bag up with the gimmick inside. I bought one and later found out that it was not the original and could not fold the bag with the gimmick inside. Where can I get the original and what is a good price to pay? Thank you in advance!

Hey Dennis,
Yes, the Dream Bag is one of my favorites too... I still use it in my show... I'm not sure really who makes the "original" one. The first one I saw and bought was at Tannen Magic in NYC back 1995 I believe. I know it's been at least 10 or 11 years. I'm going to guess that this is the original since I believe it was a brand new effect when I first saw it. I'm not exactly sure what you mean about folding up the bag with the gimmick inside though. Basically, if you think about it, if the gimmick fits in the bag, the bag should be able to be folded with the gimmick inside. I think I understand what you're saying but I just want to be sure. Actually I don't recommend doing this since it creases the bag and eventually wiill split from the pressure. The boxes also can get more stress and break the tape seams as well. I know, I've gone through a few bags and boxes...lol Anyway, the first one I bought came with a grey bag, not a brown one (like the one in the link Dnyamike gave you. I guess you could substitute the bag for anyone as long as it had the right demensions. The grey bag was specially made thick and the top of each box had the same paper on the tops. I just recently purchased another deam bag "knock off" for a rather reasonable price, and although acceptable, the quality lacked and was not as nice as the first set I bought. The bag on this one is made of the same sturdy paper as the grey one only this is kind of a very pale yellow. I was so disappointed in the poor workmanship that I decided I was going to make my OWN dream bag out of Plexiglass! I found a source of 1/8" thick clear and mirrored plexiglass and I've ordered the pieces. I will get some spring flowers, some ribbon and mix it up with a little skill and Voila! Hopefully a really sweet looking dream bag!! I'm going to make them a bit bigger than the JUMBO's mainly because I found this AWESOME little birthday gift bag,(also very well made)that has a pig on it with a birthday hat and written below him it says "hey, do I smell cake"... I just really got a kick out of it when I saw it so I decided that would be my bag. Anyway, if anyone is interested in my routine or in help on making them let me know. As soon as I get 50 posts I will maybe list one or two sets for sale in the "for sale" area... at this rate doesn't look like I'm going to get there any time soon...lol Sincerely, Peter Austin |

Thanks everyone for your replies, peter I think I bought the same one you did. unfortunately this was my first dream bag and it cannot be folded with the gimmics inside. with the original dream bag that is stage size it cost about 80 to 100 bucks and you can start the patter with the gimmic inside the folded bag, it is a specially made bag designed for this, not like the knock off's out there.

OK Dennis,
I hear what you're saying... I understand why you want to start the trick with the bag folded, it give the audience an illusion that the bag is empty. But perhaps you could consider using a different approach to doing the trick. Let me briefly tell you how I do it. Rather than having the bag folded flat when I start the trick I have stuff inside the bag. I have it in my table already with the stuff inside and then when I put it on my table I start to pull stuff out of it. You can use anything you want inside the bag like a teddy bear, your lunch, a coke bottle or any other props. You can even pull out things for tricks from it before you actually perform the dream bag. This is a great way to set it up since when you pull out the bag and start pulling things from it, and doing tricks with the stuff you pulled out, people don't ever think that the bag is anything more than just that, A BAG. Its a great sort of "misdirection" so to speak. Then, after you've pulled things out of it, done a trick or two, you grab the bag, tilt it toward the audience so they can see inside, and then proceed to produce the boxes. I find this to be a MUCH better setup for the dream bag since the audience SEES you taking things out of it and therefore subconsciously they have already come to the conclusion that the bag is just something you've been using to pull stuff out of and is NOW empty. THIS IS MUCH MORE REALISTIC. The "folding" of the bag I don't think was ever really intended to be part of the way the trick is performed. Also, if you pull out the bag folded and start doing the trick from there, it's more obvious to your audience that there is something involved with the bag rather than the bag just being empty after pulling things out of it. Again, if the gimmick fits in the bag then the bag can be folded. I'm not sure what you mean about it not being able to be folded.. Do you mean it's because the bag is too rigid? The gimmicked boxes are made to fit in the dimensions of the bottom of the bag and should be no more that 1/2" inch thick (all 3 folded boxes). There should be some space between the edges of the boxes and the bag so you have room to manipulate the gimmick and open the boxes for production. If the gimmick fits in the bottom of the bag then the bag can be folded. Please be more specific on why you say it can't be folded. Sincerely, Peter Austin |

Hey Peter, yes I thought of putting stuff in the bag as well, one of those fleeting thoughts, reading your posting I am reconsidering my position, with the db I bought there is no extra space at the bottom for the gimmics to have that extra space in order to fold the bag, it is just an ordianry bag, it only cost 20 bucks shipped but it is the size of a jumbo bag. Maybe that is why the manufacturer has discontinued them. Hmmm, at 20 maybe I should just get another one to have as an extra and get the original too. thanks
