I'm looking for a collection of packet effects in either a book or DVD. Preferably non-gaffed cards, with the possible exception of blank faces and double-backs.
Also, my handling of The Restless Lady has been put together after watching video performances a million times. Where can I find the original Ascanio treatment? Thanks for your help. |

Paul Hallas' book SMALL BUT DEADLY, is about packet tricks.
Phil Goldstein's (Max Maven) FOCUS. Some years ago I compiled a manuscript that lists about 500 packet tricks and the 100 books to locate them (with author name). It also includes a list of about 160 commercially released packet tricks and their "inventor". This manuscript does not teach packet tricks but is a useful source to locate a packet trick. The names are in alphabetical order and also the book titles. I have about ten copies left. Richard |

In addition to those mentioned above Dan Harlan has a video series called "The Best Of Emerson & West - Packet Trick Magic." I think there were 6 volumes (give or take a volume). I haven't seen them, so I can't offer much by way of recommendation (other than to say, "Hey... c'mon... It's Dan Harlan").
Richard, I'd love to hear more about your manuscript. |

Hi Magiguy,
The Dan Harlan video series is very good. I'd forgotten about those. The actual packet tricks with cards were included with the videos which made it a bargain. There were six volumes and they included some of E & W's best packet tricks. I'm travelling for my company these next few days. When I arrive home on Thursday, I'll give a better description of the manuscript and its contents. I appreciate the interest. Cheers, Richard |

There was also a little booklet by Jerry Mentzer called "Packet Tricks" which had more emphasis on none gaffed stuff. It is still available.
Jon Racherbaumer's booklet on the Ascanio Spread (re-released recently I think) has plenty of packet effects in it. Walt Maddison released a booklet of packet effects years back as a follow up to his booklet "Aces" called "Spacka-Trix" (1986) but this is no longer available. Paul. |

Such a book would be more massive than the national debt.

The manuscript is spiral bound and (what I believe) lists EVERY packet trick made.It is a limited edition of 50 copies. The packet effects are listed by name, by the author, what book it can be found in as well as the page number. If you have ever heard of a packet effect you liked and did know where to find it, this manuscript is your answer. In the back he lists the commercial packet effects ( Emerson & West, Nick Trost etc.) By their title, inventor and the category they fall under. The very last pages even include instructions for two packet effects as a bonus, if you really needed a bonus after all the informationn contained in this one book. I very highly recommend this book (providing Richard has any left ) he can be contacted through this forum or pm me if you need his contact information. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......
