I've made the magic addict's mistake of buying almost everthing that catches my eye. If I had it all to do over again (and some self-control to go with it), Osterlind and Cassidy's DVDs are ALL a mentalist will ever need.

Like many users, my vote goes to Banachek and Osterlind but Marc Spelman's serie contains good stuff too.

There is a single DVD called "Mental Marvels, Feats and Stunts" from what I heard is similar to the "How to be a Fake Kreskin" book, and then there is a "Best Moments of" 3 DVD set, but I didn't see where either of them came with a pendulum. |

The book is an enjoyable read and you can pick up a lot. The film is great as well, but if it become popular with the mentalist crowd, might as well just watch March of the Penguins.
One little Penguin follows the other, followed by yet another, and another, so on, and so forth, all dressed up with the identical little dinner jackets waddling across the same slippery plain of ice, no idea as to where they are going, but keeping their eyes firmly planted on the backside of the penguin in front. I can hear them all too squawking that same sounds, wah, wah, wah, lottery tickets, wah, wah, wah, watch the spoon, wah, wah, wah, 2C-3H-6S, wah, wah, wah, look mah, no pulse, ... A never-ending line of weird little birds that cannot fly, following the guy in front and mimicking what he does. In magic, we have the "ducks" (those who have been around know exactly what I mean) I propose we adopt the penguin for the mentalist equivalent. In a very strange mood, Tony |

Carlyle Touch (Carlyle)
Mental Miracles (Cassidy) Why? Because they, unlike any other "for the trade" dvd's I have seen, are actually entertaining to watch. I'm sure Osterlind, Banachek and Jermay, for instance, are very entertaining when performing for laymen, but their performances on the dvd's I have seen left me very much unmoved. And the idea that anyone should find Nyman's set useful for performance tips is completely beyond me. /bamba |

Osterlind then Banachek were my summer fare and I'm glad I watched them in that order. I also was fortunate to help a Swiss mentalist, Matt Andrews, rehearse a half a dozen of the classics from Mr. Osterlind and synthesize them into an act. This was of tremendous benefit to my own learning curve.
