In doing a little research I have found several motorcyle appearnces on the market, many are quite affordable. not sure which one I am going to go with yet. I would build it myself, but I simply don't have the time

After much research, I belive I have come up with a good method for my Motorcycle Production. I based it on several principals of magic, and on paper it would be perfect for indoors, outdoors, with stage, without stage, semi surrounded, no bulky boxes or side panels like in JC Sums. It looks really good on paper, and the laws of phisics says it 100% possible.

Concerning this topic:
A truly genious motorcycle vanish for stage is Mark Parkers. Only the front (not all sides) of a thin platform is covered briefly with a cloth and suddenly the magician appears on top of a motorcycle. Can't mention too much because I signed a non-disclosure on it. If you are seriously interested thou and have around 20K to spend contact Mark who is a member here.

Silvo,
Yes marks Motorcycle Appearance is indeed very nice, but also not for a touring performer. |

One of the greatest details is that it can be performed with a brightly lit background (yes, where are the good ol' days of Henning and Copperfield specials with red and off white backgrounds...) Plus the poison angles are minimal what makes it so deceptive and attractive for the largest stage (stadium). I think the method would even fool master Illusionists like David Copperfield...if he isn't in the know Mark is a genious designer as well as a great person. You can put him right next to Selbit, Jeans, Jarret, Steinmeyer and Gary Oullet.

Julian Bond has a wonderful, inexpensive (other than the cycle) method. Demo can be seen here..

Christian Farla has two motorcycle appearances.
One of them is a full Throttle, only this one can also open the back while on stage so you can see right through the box. The other one is the old one of The Twins build by Mark Parker. It's huge and extremely well made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yHnquuZVxk |

I found a picture of Farla's full Throttle. This one doesn't have a back. Only the front is covered. Two assistent's step through the box from the back, cover the front and when opened there it is....
http://94.100.115.244/451300001-45135000......0n1.jpeg I bet that most illusionists will know how it is done. But it's a killer on stage... And this is a picture of the other one, of Mark Parker: http://94.100.113.211/572250001-57230000......HMB.jpeg |

As magicians, Illusionists and especially designers we have to think more.
If you're going to do a BA version you have to define the space and not just hold up a cover or it points to the method. Have a ring of cloth or something else that would prevent you from just "rolling it in". I've seen so many car/motorcycle/big object productions where they just hold up a sheet on the stage and remove it to discover something sitting there. It's a fun theatrical reveal but not great magic. Yes, adding the frame is a step in the right direction but we need to keep going to make it good. The second "Box" effect suffers from "pointing to the method" again. You open the front doors to show it empty... you open the side doors to show it empty... then you open the back... oops... no you don't. The audience is lead to the back door by the actions leading to it. Yeas ago, I had a sucker vanish effect where I used the exact same sequence to make the audience think something was hidden there, and it worked. When I finally revealed the back they were all amazed as the sequencing led them to the conclusion that it had to be there as all of the guilt compiled. I would say that the effect isn't an appearance but a penetration of a bike through a wall. The Julian Bond method seems to be a copy of Franz Harary's "perspective production" technique. Yes, many have done it but it's mainly for a filmed production and seems to now be ubiquitous with big object reveals on youtube and with every television magician as it's cheap and easy to do. Maybe he came up with it independently... I don't know. We have to carefully analyze what the audience thinks as we sequence our actions to lead them from the method, otherwise we're just displaying props, not creating wonder.
