As if the postcards and phonecalls weren't enough, now I'm getting emails from these idiots!
Enough! How much of my time must be wasted telling them "no." Steve - please report back on what response you get. Or if anyone with any power in the IBM is out there and reading this, please let us know this will not happen again next year! |

Everything that has been said here has been reported to the I.B.M. executive committee. Except for bsears recent post.
They have asked me to request that all comments about the Harris/I.B.M. directory be sent to our headquarters in St. Louis. Please send them to: office@magician.org You can address them to Sindie Richison. ( That is the correct spelling.) She is our International Executive Secretary. They will follow through and make your comments known to powers that be. Steve Hart I.B.M. Membership Chairman

Bsears, you're not alone! It has gotten to the ridiculous stage now.
I called them, as requested, when they first started the directory update. I verified my information and, after the never ending sales pitch, was finally able (politely) to get through to them that I was not interested. I thought that was it. Since then, I have also continued to receive their postcards and emails asking that I call them to "confirm" the information they have on file. I guess the first time was not enough to say NO. Can you imagine the frustration that must be going on with the rest of the IBM members given the small number of people here in the café that participate in this forum and are disappointed with this kind of treatment? Instead of everyone here having to write Sindie in St. Louis, maybe she can sign onto the café and see what has already been said! How many times must these same issues be repeated before "the powers that be" get the message? No wonder the IBM's membership continues to decline! Mark. |

I called updated my info, then told the lady no, then I told her no again, then no again. I have not had any follow-up cards or emails though. Thank goodness.

Thank You Bill Wells and Steve Hart for giving this your Personal attention.
I was contacted by Harris Publications today, via email. They apologized for the problem I experienced and promised to have rectified the glitch in submitting international addresses and telephone numbers. The personal correspondence from Steve Hart and from Harris Publications has shown me that the I.B.M. takes this seriously and I am grateful for the Magic Café’s forum to discuss these issues. Cheers, George |

Hey all,
It was no big deal. I got the email and the card, I called and game them my info. Then they asked if I wanted a copy of what I was contributing to -- I simply said no thanks. My college in Detroit used this same company and did the same thing for Alumni... No biggie, Later, Matt! |

There are a number of things that are just plain wrong with the Harris form. The main one is that it limits your categorization as a magician. I have to choose between being a pro, a dealer, a publisher or a collector. I am all four.
The amount of information they are collecting is insignificant. Basically, this is going to serve as a database for every magic-oriented junk mail and spam artist in the world. It's as useless to me as this "group health insurance" thing. I phoned the "group health insurance agent," and he never got back to me. By the time he does, I'll be on medicare.

If you read my previous posts on this thread, you will know why I am so frustrated at the moment.
I received my copy of the I.B.M. Directory this week and after the previous and numerous telephone conversations, emails and reassurances, they Still got my information wrong! This was after I verified and re-verified the accuracy of my information. This was after I was personally emailed by the Team Leader at Harris Connect that my concerns were addressed and corrected. I was also sent 2 or 3 late/delinquent payment notices because their billing department screwed up. Oh yeah – did I mention they mailed it to the wrong address and it had to be forwarded to me?!? Harris Connect really really screwed the pooch on this one! I hope I.B.M. reconsiders who they contract next time they decide to publish another train wreck like this one. |
