I would have put this in "the words we use", but I need scientific terms, not patter.

I'm working on a line of patter, that follows the supposed origins of the cups & balls (although it's description is more like the 3 shell game). I know nothing about cavemen or ancient history, and the story is goofy, but I'd like to have believable time periods/levels of evolution. At what period would these games be believable?

1. Find Rock: Rock is placed on table. Guesser points and says "Rock".

2. Rock and Shell: Rock is covered with a shell. Guesser points at shell and says "Rock".

3. 2 Cups and a Ball: Ball is hidden under one of two cups. Guesser points to where ball is hidden.

4. 3 Cups and a Ball: The 3 shell game.

Name your characters Josh, give them caveman sounding names like Og or Tor. Ug the magician has a nice ring to it.

Remember that most people think of Dinosaurs when they think of pre-history, but Dinosaurs have been gone aprox 65 million years, while humans have been around a bit more than 25 thousand.

Mammoths and sabertooth tigers were around with us.

Insects have probably not changed too much since then except maybe for size.

Maybe caves and eggs instead of cups and balls?

5. Cups and Balls done well. Spectator points and says, "That rocks!"

Thanks Guys. I don't need any patter suggestions, just time periods. From early cave man to early Egyptian, what are some good period names that could conceivably correspond to the games I mention.

Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.
