Jim and Vandy be correct. I don't take myspace things seriously when I see the link (I've never been to the site) and also don't take people serious if they use a hotmail account for business email.

I'm on there quite a bit. I've no excuses, just no life. ANyhow, I'd take what's on there with a dose of salts.

It's a fun place to browse and have some fun but on a professional level, not the best choice.

I disagree. Not with the fun place to hang around part. If you get the chance, do look around. What you will find is that many people in the entertainment community have a presence on MYSPACE and use it to help market themselves, and it works!

Just my thoughts.

I Tend to agree with the Web site View. I do have a Personal Space, but I also have a proper Web site for advertising my as a Magician. I think that it looks far more proffesional too.

After all, a web site can cost Money, If you can do it yourself or have a friend that it may not, but a prospective client may not know that, they only see a profesional site. and they do say that Money goes to Money...

That is my outlook anyways.

Myspace can be a good "Interim" site while a website is being built (As mine is), but it's primary function for me is networking with other performers and venues. For that, it can be amazing! A lot of my long distance gigs were made from contacts on myspace.
Would a biker bar in South Carolina have known about my website up here in Michigan? No...But through the friend of a friend type of networking done through myspace, we were found, got to open for Hank Williams III and headline in a weekend long festival.
It is not about professionalism or advertising. Myspace is all about Networking.
I wouldn't use it as my only way to get my info out there, and a real solid webpage is crucial, but it can be a start.
Just my thoughts.

I agree with Gwyd. It has gotten our names out there to get the paying jobs that are paying for our site to be built. And our professional site will still include our myspace page. It's great to build local fan base as well as talk and meet others across the country.
Yes it is more professional to have your own website(easier for people to remember the addy especially!), but then again I've seen some websites for performers that are less professional then some sites on myspace.

No one has suggested to use myspace strictly to market yourself. Not even I would use myspace to market myself to event planners.

I do however use MySpace to keep connected with fans and other poor souls who've watched my show.

It's incredibly popular right now.

As for the little "tweens" - no one gets added to my friends list unless they're over 18. (unless I know them personally and their parents are okay with it)

Your website is one thing, MySpace is another. Myspace is fun. If you read the other threads, you will find that performers that play to college kids have a website for the bookers and a MySpace page for the fans.

I was thinking that one of the thread I started.
I think I commented on one of them. Its just as
fun to just post a reply on each of 'em.

I don't really have anything to <put> on a website right about now.

Maybe in the future.
