I am just about finished with my upstairs magic bar and a couple of friends stopped by. I was in the kitchen getting some beers and when I returned to the magic room I found this couple looking at my cup collection in a display case.
The guy asks, "So what are all of these?" I explained that they were cups for the magic effect the cups and balls. He laughed and said, "Oh that makes sense...she thought you collected Thermos bottle tops." A large number of the cups on display in the collection are Paul Fox style cups. The intent of this post is not to start a debate on if Fox based his design on the Thermos top; I just thought it was kind of funny the gal thought I collected Thermos Tops. And it was the first time I've had a layman make a comment saying the cups looked like thermos tops. |

So, how many thermos tops do you have?

Lately while shopping in numerous different stores I'm always on the look out for thermos tops and from what I've noticed the newer tops don't really look like cups and balls cups, afterall there are no skirts on 'em and they are all silver not copper or brass and most new thermos tops have a plasticlining inside.

So have you thought of any good tie-in lines yet? If the audience is already at that starting point, it might be a good idea.

If you have a set of the chrome plated Danny Dew chick cups, you could make a really HUGE thermos bottle out of PVC pipe.

I can empathize with that!
I feel your pain. BTW, if your wife or family ever object to the cups, just suggest that you might want to put a moose head on the wall over the bar. The cups will stay.

Funny you mention the moose head. This same guy told me he was at G.I. Joe's (Local store) the other day looking for a specific item which they were out of. While there he found a large fake deer head that sings like the well-known singing fish. Came complete with a remote control and microphone so you can make the deer say whatever you want. He decided he had to buy it. So he is packing this huge thing through the store and his better half refuses to walk with him or go through the checkout counter while he buys it. She is not thrilled with it at all. He loves it. I'll have to check it out. I may need one in the bar.

Thanks for the laugh ....I too can empathize as from time to time I need to sell cups to make room for newer sets but my wife will not allow me to sell my R-n-T originals, she really likes those cups.
It was one of the first effects I did for her when we first met. Later, Mobius |

My wife really likes the Victory Cups. For me, each set tells a story. When they are up for auction they sing to me "Buy me. Buy me. Those other guys won't love me like you will." All they need is a red light to stand under.
