My friend used to do some kind of coating on normal cards which gave them a marble kind of look. The cracked effect. Like an old painting. I will try to find out what he did to them for you but it will be a while until he phones me from the UK again. Maybe someone here knows how to do it.

That's very interesting!

I think that Bikes, "The black deck" look quite lovely for various bizarre presentations.

I also use a Salvadore Dali Tarot deck which is SENSATIONAL..

Which reminds me, Doc Shiels used to use the Surrealist deck. It wasn't a tarot deck but a normal (?) deck. You can still find them around if you are very very lucky. I have a deck around here somewhere.

I believe he did some sort of Thin fiberglass coating which had a cracking effect when it dried. but could also be horribly mistaken. As I said before, I will get the facts from him and will pm them to whoever would like to do it.

Not to nickpick, but Wolflock, do you need to put a an extra line between each line in your signature ? It takes up a lot of space on the board.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

One of the largest collection of playing cards under one roof is "The Card Collection", from England. They have almost every kind of playing card you may think of (although some of the more "arcane" cards discussed here can't be found in their catalog) and are certainly worth checking for the odd pack or the unusual one. I've been a long-time customer of theirs (just this week I bought other 5 "special" decks ;-) ) and I've always been more than impressed with the service and the extent of their catalog.

(I'm in no way affiliated with the above shop...)

I'm surprised no one mentioned THE KEY TO THE KINGDOM Book with Playing Cards
By Tony Meeuwissen. One of the coolest, spookiest decks around. They are slightly oversized and plastic coated and handle pretty well. Just look at this back design: http://www.geocities.com/fingerjack/KKBACK.html .It's actually a tattoo of mine. Look closely at the detal. Also, the deck comes with a book, beautiful art, and a secret to discover. Hope it helps....worth the money!

Have a look at the blackheart shop (link above). I myself use prints I made myself using scans of "Visconti Tarot". I printed on special carton with linnen structure, and partially aged that cards. Wear and tear by grinding, colour fade with tea and ash, artificial mildew by moistening the cards and a bit instant nescafe that falls on them, spraying a mixture of perfumes and moth powder on them to give a strange smell....
