Wow, I just got my Devil's Deck from Blackheart---very, very nice work. Each card is different, and the deck itself opens up the possibilities for many different effects and stories. Thanks for the suggestion folks!

I have a deck that I use in a lot of haunted or bizarre magic that I made myself, I went to an antique store and was lucky enough to find an old deck of regular playing cards, they were probably just a cheap knockoff, but they were already aged, I got them for $3 and brought them home and took each card and just burnt the edges a little to give them that eerie look, I also burnt parts of the box to make it look like it had survived a fire, I also took the cards and gave some cards a slight spray in areas with some roughing spray and then let them sit in a well ventilated area, another idea is to scratch off some of the pips with a nail file or swiss army knife and then burn the spot a little. These cards turned out well and I use them frequently, I will try and post some pictures of them

My deck really isn't spooky, but I use the 1864 Poker deck from US Games. I get a lot of comments on it because it has that older antique look to it. They are fairly inexpensive and that's a good thing.

I'm actually holding a pack of Highlanders right now. I've had them about a week, and they are really interesting cards. I picked them up in a country-type store (don't ask why they carried these) and I got them for 5.95 each. The stock is pretty thick and has a really nice "snap" to it. The cards don't have and numbers in the index-which gives them that "old" look, but the faces of the cards aren't yellow or brown. You could do that yourself, as said previously. I got some of these because it is fun to look at a spot card and not know which one it is right away--just something different. The cards themselves don't really have a finish but they are still able to be fanned. They are just coated in plastic, but have none of the divits used for various deck finishes. The backs are one way but spectators would never notice (its just tons of white flowers on an old cornflower blue background). The square corners are annoying and I am considering rounding them. I think scrapbooking or art stores have corner cutters that will work perfectly-but it needs to be small. These decks are cool pick a couple up they should last a long time and can be used for many different presentation ideas.

That's right I said cornflower. And I wanted to add that having no borders on the backs makes card magic tricks limited. Buy some anyway they are fun to practice with.

I use Tarot cards. They tend to creep people out.

Um...Yeah, sure Majik... I'm sure they do.
If only I had thought of that.
I'm sure that no one else uses them in their routines.

Yes...Tarot cards are good, but this thread is about ordinary playing cards with a twist. An otherwise normal object with somthing not so ordinary about it. This can actually play just a bizarre as anything done with tarot cards.
Think Friday the 13th the Series. A whole slew of ordinary objects with a curse. They had dolls, candles, compact mirrors...All of them imbued with sinister powers.
Which would be more frightning? A stone idol of a squid headed god that is obviously evil, pulsing with greenish energy, or something that blends in with every day objects...Something that could sit unnoticed on a shelf for years working it's dark secrets on the unknowing.
One of the two just screams at you "Look at me...I'm EVIL!!!" the other sits and waits for it's opportunities to present themselves.
It's like playing with a scorpion versus playing with a dart frog. The scorpion looks dangerous, so you don't mess with it, it's not going to hurt you. You look at a brightly colored frog, it doesn't seem dangerous, you can even handle it for a while, then it steps on a small cut in your hand and you are flooded with poison and die.
Every now and then, subtle is the way to go.

I, too, purchased a Devil's Deck from Blackhart and also picked up the nice Dragon Card Box too. Comes with a nice routine using the deck and box. Very nice items and highly recommended. Also for those who are seeking aged and/or Bicycle cards, Ellusionist has a deck coming out the first of January if your interested. Here is a link:

I have the Devils Decks from blackhart. And as stated they are very nice

I cannot wait for the Vintage series since they will lend themselves well to myu Piratical theme.... These things look like they have been shipwrecked.

In fact I already have the start of a routine launched to use these bad boys when they show up. That is the problem after you have been exposed to Baba, christian Shane and the other "rogue" storytellers... Mwahahahahahah

I'm not sure if these were listed on anyone else's links, but these "faro" cards look awesome for sheer authenticity:

.. and here I thought "faro" was only a type of shuffle !

The retaliation might be to take the turban off, for which we are not prepared.

Mystician, have you seen Deadwood?

Merlin C, since I am somewhat (ha!) bald, my head looks just like a baby's behind. Oh, no, not "behind." I mean "in the back!" Smile

Myst, ya gotta be able to laugh at yourself before you laugh at other people. And you're all funny as He**! Smile

"Somewhat bald" is something like being "a little pregnant."
