I end my routine with 25 balls coming out of the spectator's hand, and now I'd like to "re-load" while they are reacting, and have 25 more in my hand. I've never used a hold-out of any kind before. Any ideas of something I could have on me that I could grab a bunch of balls from?

This will be for stage, so I don't think I can get away with reaching in another pocket without it being detected by the seated audience. But If I can position my left shoulder slightly behind the person who is opening her hand, I could probably hide reaching around to my hip or something if we can think of a good holdout that I can grab them quickly from.

Thanks,

Is the person seated? Have a holder on back of a chair?

Back of a chair. Very good idea. I haven't designed the set yet, but I can certainly keep that in mind. I usually have people standing, but still, The set will have several pieces of furniture on it, so I'm sure I can think "environmental." I'm so used to strolling, I always assume everything has to be on me. Thanks so much for pointing me in that direction.

Pete makes a really valid point. Not only does it give you more options, it can also allow you to be far from the point of the steal at the time the load is revealed. There are other options for use with this idea. Certain other hand-held objects can be utilized as shuttling devices for helping you get a load from point A to point B. Objects in play that have already rendered themselves above suspicion won't be suspected of containing loads, but can easily be used as just described. A hat, a book, a box, a scarf, or just about anything else transferred from hand to hand can pick up a hitchhiker along the way.

Another good part about this method is that the containment device can also be mobile, as dove holders keep their load contained as that load goes from one place to another.

You will also find a lot of enjoyment in the freedom from body loads. It would be nice to be able to work if your suit bag didn't make the same flight as the rest of your show.

I have been reloading with sponges on stage for years. Have the reload in your front right trouser pocket. When you are talking to the spectator on stage, face him/her. The same time go in your pocket to take out the reload. As you are going in your pocket your left side is facing the audience as you are facing the spectator. It is good showmanship because the audience are thinking you are facing the spectator just to talk those few words. And the spectator is looking you in your eyes as you talk because you are facing him/her. I have not had a problem out of this as I did it for years.

And the way you get reload is important: Put your right hand in your pocket keeping your fingers straight. Slide the hand in keeping the back of it closer to the trouser material (away from the leg). The inside of the hand (palm side) will glide past the sponges. Keep the hand straight in that postion until you ready to pull them out. Curl your fingers pulling your hand out the same time. Grab on to a pevious sponge that was used with your right hand thumb and forefinger as you turn to face the audience. The other three fingers are curled secretly concealing the hidden sponges. You take it from there.

Dynamike,

Yes, my main load of 25 is in my right pants pocket, so I don't really have a place on my body for another 25.

I love the freedom of playing around with environmental hiding places. Cool.

Joshua;

A combination idea occurrs to me. I always prefer a load pinned to my inner coat or belt where I could reliably get it. For your purposes with a sponge load, it may be that you could have it clamped together and hanging under your coat. When you take it away, the clamp and sponges both, it could stay clamped small till time for the reveal. Re-gripping would allow the clamp to open and arm the sponge load. For a clamp I'm thinking of a kind of reverse bear trap that stays closed like a safety pin until you open it. You could put both your first and second load into these and save your pocket for another day.

If you can find a set of "Rabbit Explosion," that will tell you what you need to do to produce the load of 25 sponge balls.
