Here in San Francisco good performance space is at a premium.

That coupled with the fact that there are A LOT of tourist dollars floating around ensures that there are always a lot of... in a word... *bad* street performances going on, even to the exclusion of other acts that are good -but are waiting for the bums who dress as metal men or the thugs who break dance to get drunk/bored and clear out.

My question is this -how do real workers deal with the problem of finding good spaces to perform? Also, any good ancedotes about situations where your show conflicted with someone else?
