I recently received Dennis Loomis' "Knot Routine Plus" DVD, and I must say, Dennis Loomis is a real rope trick performing artist. Dennis does stuff on DVD that can only be found on the pages of the Stewart James' "Encyclopedia of Rope" book. I highly recommend this DVD for the real rope trick nut on your Christmas list.

I agree with Al. This is one of the most useful DVDs out there for a working performer! It's much easier to learn the routine from the DVD than from books. The material works for close-up or stage. You can carry everything in a pocket, or even borrow a piece of rope and you are on your way. And, you can use the same piece of rope for every performance!

That's right...You almost need the video to view the various angles to do this sort of magic (ie. ropes, rubberbands, etc.), IMO....

Best DVD I have seen on rope routines using knots. Dennis did a great job putting this one together, and this DVD teaches us a lot.

Steve,
It's about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco.
Never criticize someone else until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then, when you do criticize them, you will be a mile away from them and you will have their shoes.

Thank you. Believe it or not, I've not been North of SF in over 40 years.

Hey guys,
I get that Will Rogers snap knot about 25% of the time after practicing for a week. I bought my DVD from Dennis, himself, which allowed me to PM him every day for moral support. Dennis is an artist, a gentlemen, and a pleasure to do business with.

Thanks for the plug, Al.

You don't need to buy it directly from me to get my help. Feel free to PM me with questions, and I will respond and try to help.

To Steve V.,
Bay Point is adjacent to Concord and Pittsburg in the East Bay area of the San Francisco Bay Area. (Bay Area BART riders know the name because one of the lines is the "Bay Point" line.)

Don't come looking for my "Magic Shop." My business is strictly Internet and mail order. If you want a good shop in the Bay Area, visit California Magic in Martinez or Misdirections Magic right in San Francisco.

Okay, you are borderline Delta, about an hour down the road from me. I know you don't have a shop...I still get a kick out of the last time I saw you, dressed in your evil magi attire doing balloon sculptures. Good times.

Hi Steve,
A lot of magicians look down on Balloon Sculpture, but I've had a lot of fun with it over the years. So easy to carry a few balloons in a pocket and quickly doing a poodle or swan or a hat for a kid on the street or in a restaurant. It is a fast way to meet new people and make friends. And, sometimes, it leads to a show.

I try not to be an evil magi, but my favorite pair of cuff links is a hand carved ivory set of demon or devils heads.

Best to All,

Dennis Loomis

I have had Dennis Loomis' knot routine DVD since Sept 16, and I'm doing the Will Rogers snap knot about 50% of the time. I look forward to competing this winter at the SAM 4 stage magic competition when I can do the snap knot over 90% of the time. I have in my head a rope routine that features some of Dennis' rope tricks, some of my own (when I say "my own rope tricks", I really mean tricks I've learned from other sources), and of course some of the bad one-liner jokes that are my trademark.
THANKS DENNIS

Al,
You're welcome. It would be great if you get a video of that contest act. I, for one, would love to see it. All the best.

I'm ordering it now. I ordered a mini-chop routine from Dennis recently, and was surprised at how attentive he was on a silly $10 transaction. And the routine is brilliant. So, I've ordered from Dennis again on another book. I screwed up when placing my order, and he was the same class act. Dennis = quality products and quality service.

This will be my last progress report on the Will Rogers Snap Knot.
I have had Dennis' DVD for a little over a month, and when I use the drapery cord recommended by Dennis, I can hit it more than 75% of the time. I am a very happy boy. When I perform my rope trick routine in competition this winter, I expect to have it more than 90% of the time and intend to send a DVD recording of my rope trick routine to Dennis because what he shared with me is priceless.
THANKS DENNIS

Hi Al,
Thanks again so much for your update. I'm happy for you. I would suggest that at this point, hitting it 75% of the time, that you're ready to move on to doing it simultaneously with both hands. Review the instructions on the DVD about that. It's a wonderful finale to the routine, and completely unexpected by the audience if you keep the second rope out of sight.

Someone asked me in a private email what my percentage of hits was. I'll share it here, not to brag, but to show you what you can achieve with practice. I hit the single Will Rogers Snap Knot 97% of the time, and two at once about 90%.

Before you get too impressed, consider that I was taught the single snap by Bob Lewis when was in the 8th grade. (13 years old) Today I'm 63. So, I've had a lot of practice. Today, most of the practice is in front of audiences.

Dennis Loomis

P.S. For those that might not be able to find the drapery cord I use in your area, I picked up a big spool of it, and can send you some. PM me for details.
