No, who did the review? I really think it is one of the better videos made. I liked the documentary aspect of it, the information was of value, the magic very good.

I didn't see the review but I will say that this is one of my most prized DVD sets which sits on my shelf (when not in my DVD player) right next to my Vernon Revelations DVDs. Whoever panned these must have been half asleep. The performance material alone is worth more than the cost of the set.
Koz, you did good! |

I love the DVD set. Of all my magic DVD's, I watch that and the Fred Kaps DVD the most. How can anyone pan videos of Slydini, with interviews of his friends and colleagues? The reviewer must have had specific points about the DVD the he did not like. From a historical perspective, I think it is an important contribution to the library of magic. I have read a lot about Slydini, I own some of his books, and I have read others thoughts on Slydini's contributions to magic and his style. I really enjoyed finally getting to see what people talk about when they say something like "a one coin routine influenced by Slydini." Thank you for putting the DVD together!

I don't have the review in front of me. A couple points that were made that it's hard to disagree with:
1. It would have been better if it had more Slydini performances (which there supposedly is much more of). 2. There is something incongruous about taking a few minutes to teach some of Slydini's classics via DVD amidst all the stories we hear on the same DVD about how Slydini would spend 100s of hours working with his students getting every nuance precisely right. |

Well certainly we cant put you into the same room with Slydini....but think about it, this is the closest that can be done...there was NO more footage available for this set....cavett which is likely that hes talking about would not allow us to use that footage....i guess he wants it to die with Slydini....
I guess we should just focus on TRICK dvd's...then everyone will be happy? come on, there has never been more time spent on a magic dvd set, nor has there ever been more money spent on a set....not everyone is going to like everything we do but he has to come up with something better than that, doesn't he....i need to get the article...cause I have no idea what he said...some consider the set to be one of the best sets ever?....personal taste I guess....i liked it |

Okay... truth be told, I was disappointed by the omission of the Cavett material. Let's face it... most of those performances are already available through bootleg video sources, and there was really no reason for Cavett (even in his most depressed state) to withhold information that would have been so greatly beneficial to so many magicians who had hoped to learn from such a mastermind. Mr. Cavett, get over yourself. There is still time in my lifetime for you to assist with the release of this material as a supplemental feature to any one of a number of magical archives.
PLEASE!!! Show some respect and regard for the art that you claimed to have so much passion for. Please?? Best regards,... ... |

Well we were willing to pay him for the material and he just sad no....thats how it is...so we searched the world for this other material......i don't care what this guy says about the project...i'm proud of it and honored to have been involved with it.....not everyone is going to like how I approach these projects or my view on magic...thankfully hes one of the few I think because we got a great response from the world on these....and it sold and continues to sell well

Thanks...it just bothers you when you work so hard on something ...we put 3 years into the thing...maybe he should have compared it to other projects like it...oh yea, that's right there are no other projects like it!

I expect the producers of these Cavett DVD's are keeping a tight hold on all the Cavett show footage in hopes of releasing an ongoing series of the old Cavett shows if these prove to be good sellers. I hope that we may see a "Dick Cavett: Legends of Magic" DVD someday in the not-to-distant future. Anyway, while I think this may be one of the reasons Cavett refused to let the Slydini footage be used, I think he should have made an exception in this case , due to the historical and specialized market this video is aimed at (strictly at magicians, not the general public who would buy Cavett DVD's off Amazon.com , etc.) |

I thought that given the quality of the dvd set, it was the worst possible review in the world. The quality of this set is so high, and so superior to almost every other magic dvd set I can think of, that to use terms like "of limited value", to me is just a travesty and mis information.

How many Slydini appearences were there on the Dick Cavett show?
I have, on DVD, almost 30 minutes straight of Slydini. Is there more Slydini to be enjoyed? |
