My wife and I are both full time magicians. We do a lot of school shows, libraries as well as some corporate work. Always looking to learn and expand I have received a sales packet called “How to Dominate the School Show Market” by Tim Piccirillo. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this or about Mr. Piccirillo and his business. I have personally known some magicians that simply took someone else’s marketing course, changed a few things, slapped their name on it and tried to promote it. I just want to avoid forking out money for something like that. Thanks.

His web site has his calender on it. It looks like he is doing 3-6 school programs a month. Maybe it is just me, but that certainly does not sound like an absolute DOMINATION. Whereas I know a school performer who works 4 or more school events each WEEK. Now to me, that would be the kind of performer who should put out this kind of course.

Yes you can dominate the market by selling ideas to those who want to dominate the market.
Although all of these course have good info in them, I often find one already knows most of the things in it already. For the most part, if you want to dominate the market you have to work at it. You can get all the info you want on how to do this from The Magic Café (and other forums) Visions Allmagic.com and more. |

What information are you seeking specifically from a course? Maybe there are some other product / course recommendations that might help you in the way you want to be helped. No sense in trying to give you answers when we don't have enough information. - Donald P.S. I admit, I don't have this product, nor have I seen it. I am not in a place to judge it.

Warning....Warning.... Danger Will Robinson!! RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY!
If a person is truly DOMINATING a market why would he/she sell the secret? Those of us who truly dominate a market don't share the information with the masses. We are selective who we actually share information with. Because you own a split deck doesn't make you a close-up expert! Truly dominating a market takes yrs and lots of relationships built over time. You have to create a catagory of one and not just be a common commodity. Dues have to be paid. There is no magic bullet. Thanks guys for your interest and feed back. Donald, in answer to your question “what am I specially looking for”? I can honestly say nothing really. We have been running a successful business now for almost ten years and we have a good foundation of repeat clients booth in and out of the school market. I am just one of those men who studies a lot, works 15 hours a day and always tries to stay on top of things. Of course when it comes to marketing, things change quickly so if someone has stumbled on to something I can use I am prepared to pay for it. Of all the marketing books and courses I have purchased over the years the best thing I ever came across for magicians was the magic marketing updates by Brian Flora. More practical, usable material here than 10 marketing courses put together.

Well, if you have the Flora material (I don't, but I've read a lot of earlier marketing materials such as those by David Ginn and Sammy Smith, as well as a few more recent products by others. I nearly always benefit in some way or another), then you might benefit from a coaching session with John Cooper. I recommend this instead of buying a product or course.
I did one with him a few months ago, and was given many ideas specific to my needs. Remember, John used to be one of the contributors to some of the earlier Flora stuff. He has clearly been there, done that. I'm not sure if I agree that marketing changes quickly. Maybe I misunderstood. I agree it tends to go through fads, but I think some of the fundamentals are timeless and will continue to work. BTW, I did not set up my initial post, with the intention of promoting John. He just happened to chime in on a topic he knows a lot about. - Donald P.S. Just because John doesn't do 600 daycare shows a year any more, doesn't mean he can't teach a person a thing or two about it. And he clearly has a unique way of approaching schools nowadays, that works well for him. Seek out some of his earlier posts, to find more about his style. For me, if I was looking for more info about school show marketing, I would look at some coaching by John, and also at the Magic Success Seminars DVDs (speakers were Jim Snack, Steve Taylor, BJ Hickman, and Steve Hart), and also at some of CJ Johnson's materials. This would build on the foundation of all of the other materials I have been gleaning from over the years.

You might also consider looking at Julian Franklin's materials:
http://www.julianspeaks.com and http://www.kidshowbusiness.com He's certainly doing more than 3-6 shows a month! Best regards Mike |

To jump in here, I agree that buying marketing materials from a guy who dominates 3-6 school shows a month is not a great idea. John Cooper, Eric Paul, Julian Franklin and Steve Kissell top my list of ideal school show marketing boosters. Stick with the ones who walk the talk!
Good luck!! Skip

The names that Mike and Skip mentioned also ring well with me.
- Donald P.S. Julian and John have a radically different style from one another, in the way they serve their customers.

Hi Brian -
I can tell you a quick summary by PM, but I don't know if its my place to point it out on a public thread, as it's not about me and my own business. It should be their right to share their own info about their business or not. However, the information about them and their styles is there in posts / threads for members to search out, if you are really keen in doing investigation. Both Julian and John are members here, and have tipped information about their styles in various posts. - Donald
