Here is a short review from http://www.jheff.com/Master_Billet_Course.html :
Okay, now to Allen Zingg's DVDs. I'm only halfway into the first DVD, though I've glanced at all the others while I make sure they work. I'd love to report that the production values are better, but they aren't. That includes the menus (volume one has some menu issues), the video shoot, and the sound. The material, though, from what little I've seen, is incredible. It's far more comprehensive than on KOTB, which is not to say KOTB is now moot since there's some great and unique stuff in there. What's important though is that all the material I've seen so far is clearly explained and quite viewable, though you may have to turn the sound up in places. Equally as important is that, despite the production quality, it is indeed a Master Billet Course. For those bothered by spending the money on discs which aren't slickly produced, I will come right out and tell you that you'll be disappointed by these discs. If you aren't bothered by the production values, and are just looking for good teaching and a comprehensive look at great material on the subject, then you'll definitely be more than satisfied. And if anyone who already ordered these discs has second thoughts and wants to cancel their order, please let me know. I'll certainly refund (or give credit) to anyone who would prefer to spend their money on something else. There's still a little bit time left to take advantage of the 20% off pre-order sale on Allen Zingg's Master Billet Course. The sale ends Monday at noon Pacific Standard Time (actually, more like 1:00 p.m. is when I'll be able to change the page). After the sale, the price reverts to the regular catalog price of 10% off. No exceptions. Complete details for the 4 DVD set (5 discs) are on the website. http://www.jheff.com/Master_Billet_Course.html |

Wow, this sounds very promising.
I would like to see 1 or 2 more reviews. But by the sounds of it, I am probably going to get it. I always wanted a full course on billet work. I was just wondering how the material is compared to Zingg's book, Billets Naturally? Thx. |

This DVD set is a mast have for everyone that is serius about billet work.
The shooting of the performances that are outdoor is not really professionaly made but you can easily see an hear everything. The content is exactly what it supposed to be. In other words I am really glad that I bought this DVD set in contrast with another billet DVD set that I wans't sutisfied at all. Titanas

I really liked watching this set, but did not learn a lot that I will put into use. I already have a lot of the material he references like Barrie Richardson, Richard Busch, Millard Longman, Kenton, Docc, etc. As for CT, I am comfortable with the first one I learned and use and don't see a reason to change or add anything new. I think vol 3 and 4 gave me the most new material and some insights that might prove helpful. I took quite a few notes and will probably go back to those before watching these discs over and over, however, that is true with a lot of videos. I prefer to use my notebooks to keep the information I really want. I find popping DVDs in and out just to find that one piece of information is annoying. I guess that's why I prefer books.
The production values were annoying. The music in the background during the explanation portions were too loud and the menus didn't work well for me. I did like the material and I really did pick up a few things on this set, but I just don't see a lot of replay value and as soon as I reach 50 posts, I think mine will be listed in the "Let's Make a Deal" forum. |

Some good ideas here- but the music in the background is very annoying especially when trying to learn and study complicated routines.

Absolutely. That music is way too loud to be just background music anyway. If they wanted to have music, have it during the intro to the scene then fade it out. I can't think of any other magic vids that have music playing during the explanations.

I agree about the music. Very distracting. I had to grit my teeth and try to ignore it. I found that if I really concentrated on the explantion process, for the most part, I was successful in blotting out that annoying music, but, that said, it shouldn't have been in the DVDs in the first place. On another level, it made me feel that Allen's heart was not really in the production and that he had the music on so that he could wile away the time while he was having to take the time to explain everything.
I'm into Disk 2 now and the material seems to all be top drawer. But that darn music!!!..... Mike

I got vol 2.
I love it, it has really helped me progress. he does flash a bit, and seems not to care ( on his coin vid too)but there are some really great moves and ideas on here. I'm glad people complained so much about the audio, cos I really steeled myself and was pleasantly relieved when I watched it. anyways I'm enjoying and learning and now I want vol 1! |
