The Demo would have been much more effective with some kind of one card pass beneath.
Im still intrigued. I just don't want to have to use Double stick...If that is what the method uses. Not a fan.

Jak, I'm not either. But the stuff that Richard Sanders uses on Supercards is great because it's invisible and works for multiple performances.

Oh That 3M stuff right?
I saw him lecture and he talked about that. Although, I bought the absolutely wrong stuff at the store. Mind PM'ing me with the name of the stuff he uses?

I had to order it online as none of the art supply or office stores in town had it. It was a bit pricy but one can will last a looooong time.

Cfrancis- in response to one of your post on this page, yes, my post was deleted. I've played around with the effects and have seen the dvd and I spoke negatively about it. That's probably why.
to summaize if I may - the idea of the gimmick is not new or originalby Morrison or sankey - some of the gimmicks are poorly made - the only strong trick I found on the dvd was where the backs change colors as well, which I believe is a weaker version of strangers gallery, and he doesn't even provide you with the extra cards - once again the dvd package looks great but the filming is not great - who's ever routines they are it seems like, they took the gimmick went into a room for 1hr, and came out with 5 mediocre effects - through the handlings of all the effects the is a long moment of wrist kill action which quickly looks unnatural and feels unnatural - if you make the gimmick sideways than you get a similar gimmick by Josh Jay which his wrote a book on and gives you a great package with - there is too much attention called to the gimmicked card, I feel, and NFW I think its stronger and more free in handling - many of the moves look wierd and akward(multiple lift, and the change could be more visual just some opinions, that were in my first deleted post, lol. I hope this one is ok. later |

If Sankey did a 1 card pass, it would put people off who couldn't do one, so I guess he is doing it openly to show you don't have to. I don't think I have ever followed an effect 100%. Once you learn the basics, you make it work for you

I have this now and he did a good job by including extra routines. I think RAINBOW JACKS and 4 X IMPOSSIBLE stand out.
I have a thought about the 3 card gaff. when he did the demo, anyone familiar with gaffs knew what it was. I think showing card in that way is not natural There is the same gaff available but, intsead of the cards foing from top to bottom, they go from side to side. By spreading the cards using the right and left thumbs ( actually the right thun=mb spreads, while the left simulates spreading ) it could look like how a lay person would spread. The CAJ deck has this gaff. I haven't done it yet as it only popped into my mind, so it may not look as good as I'm envisioning. I'd also switch out the other gaff card and make one using 3M repsoitional spray. Jus some thoughts. Still playing with it. Chris

Thanks for posting your thoughts, MagicChris. You know, when I watched the demo, I thought the display looked fine. Until I actually broke down how you would go about doing that display. But who's going to do that except a magician? To a lay person, I think this display would look fine.

Hi cfrancis! You are correct, the display most likely wouldn't regsiter with a lay person.
It's just something for me. When I feel natural, I perform better. From my on experience, when I've changed a handling to an effect that I felt made it more natural, the reactions were better. I'm sure the gaff and handling Jay does is just fine for everyone. Besides, my idea was jus that. I haven't fished the othe rgaff out and tried it. I like playing around with things. I love to practice and work on things over and over and over and.... lol. Compulsive obsesive I guess. Thanks!! Chris

I have the gaff wth the cards going horizontal and I really like it that way. Jay discusses his gaff and that only magicains will notice and I don't doubt that. But..I just like the gaff the way I'm going t use it. I think it looks more natural. A lot more natural.

MSD921's idea of using the Asher twist to accomplish the turnover is a great one in theory, but it is problematic in practice. The AT is a bit angle sensitive, as is the move Sankey uses. It appears that he deals with that by just exposing the move. Seems wrong to me. - And the Asher twist is hard to carry off either standing or sitting at a table, as the cards need to be considerably below eye level.

I've been doing 4 X IMPOSSIBLE and killing with it. It's perfect for table hopping.

I'm sure it could but why would you want to? Unless you wanted to use a different value...

Very nice effect. As to the Gaffs, I thought they were obvious, but the display doesn't matter much more than what your comfortable with. I do like the idea of side to side better, but the way the he performes a small little stutter makes the other just as plausable. As to making the gimmicks... yeah you could, but it would be very thick, look like it was printed, or will take a very long time splitting to make. I would just buy the darned thing. For 20 bucks you just can't go wrong. IMHO.

I just ordered this... I also watched the demo for Mexican Revolution... first, let me say, when that guys says "red back-ed cards" I cracked up.
But to the point. These just aren't the same tricks. Even after reading about the "second gimmick"... they just aren't... just because similar things happen (and for all of you who say they're the same thing... they're not!), they're not the same. For example, have any of you seen Sankey's "Killer Key"??? It is a Key and Nickel transpo... (did I spell Nickel right? nickle looks pretty good too... but can't be right...) I like it. I have it. I also have a friend that is an illusionist and does a sub trunk. Lucky for me, he understands even though the key and the nickel change places, and he and his assistant (did I spell assistant right? geez!) switch places, they're not the same trick. Also, I have Strangers Gallery. This is a deck trick (even though for a moment you use a packet), and is nothing like the other effects mentioned. Although it is exciting when people see my blue cards came from a RED BACK-ED DECK! haha. Also, NFW rules. Hardcore.
