Where can I buy trained doves?

Trained to do what?
If you want them for magic, then you will have to train them yourself. There are a few good books on this topic. I started out with a dove act years ago. I will tell you that you must show them care and they will act in a matter that you are looking for. Each dove has an effect that they like to do best. Play around with the doves until you find the effect that best fits that dove. Then use that dove for that effect only. To answer your question, a magician who is getting out of the dove act will be the place to get trained doves. Ray Noble |

Try getting Tony Clark's dove video tapes, "Tony Clark Unmasks." He does do a good job explaining how to train doves.

Techguy: The best performing doves are those that you train yourself and it's best to start that training with young birds. Like people, older birds get set in their ways and it's more difficult to get them to do what you want. It takes about 6 weeks to fully train a dove provided you can spend a lot of time each day with them. If you're ready to make that committment, let me know where you are from and I may be able to recommend a few breeders. You can check out the American Dove Association on the web also. They have been very helpful to me in the past for a variety of questions.

Gee, thanks Ben but I really don't have all the answers. I learn something new everyday. How did I learn what I know? I asked the same questions I see here when I started. Ask me a question about coins or cards and I'll refer to someone else everytime. I do know quite a bit about doves and love to share if I can.

I would also recommend the Tony Clark videos. Be sure to BUY them... not borrow or copy them. Also get Behind the Seams for more detailed work on the real stuff. I also recommend going straight to Tony for the purchases... he performed in a casino outside of Denver last month and comped several of us into the show who had helped him find some extra doves locally (airlines are getting silly about shipping birds). He was a joy to watch and to talk with after the show.

You might want to see if you can find Amos Levkovitch "dove kit" (I don't know the exact name). It has everything you want to know about doves

Amos's video's are called "Just do It" and "Dove Tales" but both are very hard to find. Tony Clarks are readily available. Both are excellent videos.
