Went to a party last night and there was a guy doing card tricks. He was pretty good, but another fellow there pulled out this trick with 2 platter and 4 cards. Made all 4 cards on a pile on the table, end-up between the 2 platters, one at a time. Blew everyone away. I had never seen that one before and asked the guy about it and he said it was something his dad passed along to him that he carries everywhere he goes. Said it was another one of those Tenyo Magic effects. Would anyone know of this one, any thougths?

This is Kiroshi Kondo's "The Sandwich Platter" and was first released in 1979. It's a discontinued Tenyo item.
A Google for: -"Sandwich Platter" Tenyo- should turn up something. |

I believe it is very similar to the original Roydon's Fantastic using four(I think) cards and two pieces of cardboard. This occasionally pops up on the "big auction".

Sandwich Platter is one of the great Tenyo items in my opinion. Practically self working. I do have one along with many other Tenyo, but not for sale. Keep checking E-Bay I do see Tenyo occasionally...

The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Hiroshi Kondo is the creator of famous 'Zig Zag Cig', and he is now the vice president of Tenyo Co.,Ltd.
He is the key person for creators who wish to do business with Tenyo. This year, they are releasing creations of Mr.Cornwinder and Mr.Mike Powers. They are going to have more business with oversea creators. Hideo Kato |

Mainly due to this thread I picked this up recently on ebay. Although this will not fool your magacian buddies, this is a really nice little item. I wonder why Tenyo discontinued this?

One of reasons Tenyo discontinue a good trick is that minimum number for plastic item to make in one time. If they can make 1000 in one time for a reasonable cost, they can continue any plastic items.

What strikes me about this is that after all these years, no one decided to copy it and produce it under another name. Just look at something like nickles to dimes- it's been copied and sold thousands of times over. And it's brass...sandwich platter is plastic and has to be cheaper.
One wonders in today's world why this cannot be produced again. |

IMO, it started to get drawn out, and I would like to have seen the last 2 go at once to speed it up a little...I still would like this...

What a fine trick this is! it was one of the first dealer items I ever saw when I was very young... and my eyes popped and my young brain twisted a few times.
my father bought it in a well known magic-shop in Berlin (Zauberkönig), used it a while and donated it than to me. It came with a routine of the owner of the shop, Günther Klepke, called "Karate Sandwich", I believe. the cards penetrate the plastic platter by using different karate-techniques...great fun to do. unfortunatly the cards are becoming slightly dirty and it´s not easy to clean them properly. perhaps someone can make a suggestion... sigh. nice memories. best regards Axel |

Crikey this effect takes me back!
It's (in my view) one of the best items Tenyo ever produced - albeit the cards looked and felt like nothing from this planet! I remember working on a particular move near the end as it wasn't very clean nor convincing (as per instruction). No doubt many of us cut our teeth on Tenyo effects - and no doubt as many again can't remember where the *** things ended up! Personally, I think a lot of Tenyo items introduced each year are now quite boring - they seem to have had a cut/restored and penetration fetish (now now!!) in Japan from the early 90's onwards - a case of same meat but different gravy as we say in England.

I have one of these and it is a great carry around selfworking card trick. Not much can be examined but it is a very baffling effect. One of the first Tenyo items I got back in the 70s.
Jim. Thats me on the left,Everyone should know the other guy!

There Is a variation of this trick on the market, published in 1992, From Marcelo Contento. The platters are made from very nice wood, the cards are Bicycle ones. Great quality! It's called something like the Policeman and the four thieves.
