That's had what I thought but I wanted to ask the experts here. Thank you.... Are presentation effects using both books together given?

Got home this morning at 6:00 A.M. There was a package on my front door step. Which was great because I thought that I would have to wait untill Monday to pick anything up. Get in and hands full, I ripped open the package with my Teeth. I find my next homework assignment. I open these smaller envelopes and there it was this dirty, old, dingy, small book. For a minute I forgot the concept of the effect. Because I picked up the package box again to see if it was out in the rain or something. But no it was My "SINISTER" book along with the other things that I got from Outlaw. These books are amazing in how authentic they look. I am very happy with them and cant wait to dig in and learn these effects and put them to good use.
Outlaw wallet is so simple and sweet. I still need to go through everything and give it a good read. but as of first impression. I am very happy to have these in my possession. My only regret is that I waited so long to order them. But I am glad that I got Sinister, since from what I here is the Creme DE la Creme.

I'm hoping to join in the Sinister fun soon. I can't wait much longer or I'll plotz.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Great, thanks for the update.
BTW, I was wondering if the killers are customers of the pawn shop and the victims are also, is it plausable that they met there? Just another storyline to ponder. J. Manuel

Just a quibble . . . .
The cover says "Capitol Crimes Bureau." A "capitol" is a building that houses the legislature of a state or country. Murder is a "capital" offense. Now, this won't mean a thing to 99% of spectators. But the 1% who, like me, have criminal justice connections (or are just grammar pedants ), will think something's up. It won't tell them the method, but they'll know it's not really what it appears to be. For me, as a spectator, it would tend to break my "suspension of disbelief." With all the work that goes into these, it's a shame that a small thing like this slipped through. |

The letters on the photo on my site are not as distressed as the books that go out. Several letters in the cover words are un readable after the distressing and the little o in capitol is not distinguishable from an o or an a after the distressing is done. If someone has a cover where the o is not distressed enough just PM me and I'll tell you how it will take about 10 seconds to change it and no one will notice any difference. The beautiful thing about these books is the more messed up looking they are, the better they look! BTW I dought that is the first time a government organization had a mis-print on a document. Should be a collectors item! |

You are right honus, "it won't mean a thing". And I'm willing to bet that people in the rare position such as yourself, are more likely to be among the 0.001% of those you mentioned.
A typo or not. An inconsistency with symantics. An "o" for an "a". Sounds like Government work to me. No chance at all for "suspending disbelief". Sounds like the perfect "cover up", since this book was supposedly intended as an "inside piece", with very controlled access. Thank you for making this insightfully cryptic observation. Just adds to the "feel" of this very "unique" artifact. Unlike anything else one would likely to find from a defunct beaureau of criminal investigation. ;) |

A nice aged blood spot over the offending letter might work too
Or a knife slit... hmm.. a knife stab effect into the book...well... once I get it, I am going to go wild... ((Check mailbox)) ARGGRGRGRGHHHH...soon it shall arrive...the stars say so!

I showed this to Mick Ayres who some of you may know him as a killer card guy and musician for the Disney people. (Also does the only full length ongoing magic show for Disney)
He has seen these books sitting on my table were I work. And over the past few months has heard all of the presentational ideas for use in my show. I did for him the presentation I out lined on Rick's site. His response was "That's Brilliant!" He was also quite taken with the workings and the book itself. Personaly I think this may be the best book test on the market for those who are looking to add some depth to their performances. I also cannot see how they manage to sell it so cheap. I would charge at least $100 to go to all of the trouble. J ack

I just got and it is very good. I like the easy system and then you get a killer kicker, pun enjoyed. The aging is super and even the spiral spring binding is rusty. It seems the form factor fits the info very well also.
It is so effective I'm afraid of getting arrested for stealing some body's brain. Or for possessing tools to fry a mind. Thanks Roth! Like the Homicide books I'll use the Outlaw Wallet with the Sinister book, just 'cause I can. The combos are the best deal. J. Manuel

I received all 3 of the series last week (Homicide, Manhattanville and Sinister). Still overwhelmed, but digesting. I wanted to list some of my impressions.
If you visit the forum (www.outlaw-effects.com/outlaw/), there are some very good ideas for making these look more authentic. At least one post has specific instructions on what to cross out, notate etc. (helps with presentation). You do not need to do this however. My wife who is extremely detail oriented saw them on my desk and asked what they were. I said a friend gave them to me - got them at an antique store. She looked through it (Homicide) and admired its "age" and was morbidly fascinated by the murders. To her it was completely real. She handled it with the reverence due an old book. Rick did more than a fantastic job of making these, and the tips to personalize them on the forum are pure gravy. They look similarly worn and are about the same year. No one would question an entry being in two of them. In fact, it looks like they were all owned by the same person. I have yet to put these to the test (itching to), but I don’t think I will feel like I am using props. Their existence gives me an excuse to make the presentation, even an impromptu one if someone notices them. I feel comfortable having these on me (as opposed to a prop – something you would not normally have in your possession). And, because the method is so well concealed there is no fear of leaving them out. As mentioned here the method for Sinister is, well, more sinister than the other two. All are great though and the fact that they weave together really makes this work. The forum has some good tips for making the method even more transparent and flowing the separate books together naturally for a full act. People are attracted to murder and crime. If you don’t overplay it, you have a great piece for a show or an impromptu performance. I have been carrying Sinister around in my back pocket to make it look more worn, but really I am waiting for the next, “you read minds… do something” challenge. Magic and mentalism are cottage industries. I am always grateful and extremely appreciative when someone like Rick takes the time and effort to make something so worthwhile. Do yourself a favor a pick up at least Sinister (I took advantage of the package deal ). You will enjoy it and you will be supporting someone who has given a lot already to this discipline and has more to offer.

Wow; now here's an effect that was well worth the wait. I wanted to say that the effect is unbelievable and incredible but those would be quite ironic as adjectives...
What makes this effect excellent is that it IS credible and it IS believable. The aging work has been done so perfectly that audiences will BELIEVE that the book is the real deal. The method is also diabolical and very well thought out. It is *not* an effect you'll perform right out of the box. This will take some work and practice to make it your own. It is the type of effect that lends itself very well to story telling and I can't wait to get started! I'm going to workshop this effect over the next few weeks and will post back once I've tried it with an audience. I need to repeat though that the amount of detail that has gone into aging these books is just astounding. Roth has taken it to a new level - the coil shows rust, the pages show wear and tear; the pages look fragile - it just has all the little things you would expect from such an old book. I can imagine that these books will become a rarity soon and would urge anyone thinking about this effect to pick one up asap. Highly recommended.

With all these new members of the Outlaw Posse who now own Sinister head on over to the Outlaw forums. Nothing better than all of us getting together to share our thoughts and ideas for these wonderful effects. I currently am working on some ways to reveal the killers names. Anyone want to work on some panagrams for the names and other parts of the book. Rick has provided us with effects that have layer after layer of possibilities. Like a big old stinky onion!

After some work I have come up with some logic and cross references that link the Sinister book directly to the Homicide book. Given that they are tightly linked through the pawnshop book I felt that there must be some other connection between the book of victims and the killers, and I think I have a method to do so.
I just posted more details in the Sinister presentations forum for your use. J. Manuel
