I just got this in my email. It's a new one by Andrew Mayne. Use your cell phone or borrow a spectators to capture ghostly images and make things appear with the camera phone. It looks great. Spook your friends. I can only imagine the possibilities. Thoughts?

Reminds me of the "Creature" trick in another form. Great way to scare people.

Upon viewing the demo again, it seems that a certain gimmick's placed in front of the lens to create this illusion? At any rate, I'll find out when the order arrives. Anyone has this already? I think this's a fun Halloween's trick to perform when the golden red leaves are falling and the little creatures on the ground

Are we allowed to talk about methods here??
I think I have a very good idea as to how its done, and I am planning on trying it out myself. Mayne is a creative guy. I have to say this one caught me off guard. I like it. I don't know how often I would use it honestly. But to have it in my arsonal would not hurt. Can't wait for sum reviews.
I've been training these cards since they were small.

Anybody tried making their own gimmicks yet?
I have an idea on the construction, but I'm not sure if anybody has done it yet and yeah, it will not be good to discuss it in here. Anybody want to PM me to talk about it?
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, none will suffice.

I performed this for my wife last night and she was actually a little disturbed by it. Not so much in the effect, as she is well aware of what I do for a living. She's actually a little concerned as to how strong this might be for certain people. One of our best friends belongs to a paranormal society and Jen believes this effect would send this person right over the edge. I reassured her that due to the fact that Andrew's only selling this thing for $15 means everyone and their uncle will probably be trying to perform it and a good percentage of those performing it will probably expose it. I have a similar effect called "Say Cheese" that I was using for a while, although not to show ghosts. It's easy to perform, which means much focus can be put on presentation, as it deserves a strong one. Unfortunately I'm afraid that it will be treated as an easy-to-do party gag by most who take the little time necessary to learn the mechanics. As easy as it is to do, treating it as something you can do at will will certainly diminish it's potency.
I absolutely love the effect, and wish it would have sold for much more. I'm hoping it doesn't go the way of the folding quarter, because it's one of those "holy #%@^&#!" kind of effects if presented right. If treated as an effect and not a throwaway gag, it could be a real reputation maker. The fact that it's a bit of a DIY project hopefully means that someone who takes the 3 minutes needed to construct it will at least practice it enough to perform without giving it away. All that said, the DVD is great and well detailed. There are enough alternate effects in it that I can't imagine any performer not finding something usable with this effect. Mayne has done it again!! |
