I just thought I'd add my experience with this effect -- not from performing it but from seeing it done.
In 1995, I was brand new to magic (3 months) and by all accounts a layperson. While attending the Midwest Magic Jubilee in St. Louis, I saw a guy in the lobby surrounded by a bunch of people. I walked over and saw this person take a folded playing card and wave his bare hand over it and it turned inside out. I was floored. He waved his hand again and it turned back. I was floored again. Finally he tore the card in half and then proceeded to put the card back together again. I had to go change my underwear. The person was David Ren Jenkins and I saw Warp One. I didn't know who he was at the time and I certainly didn't know what card warp was let alone all the different methods that existed. I didn't know that it was traditionally done with one card wrapped around another card. As a layperson, I saw something very magical. A wave of the hand and there it was. Also, I can now say his restoration is relatively simple as restorations go. Back then, I saw a card in two pieces and then it was whole again. I was flabbergasted. No fancy piece by piece restoration -- just two pieces, then one piece. I think sometimes we get so caught up in method that we miss the big picture which is the effect on the audience. I would guess that most laypeople have never seen a cardwarp effect so whichever method is used, it would seem magical to them. The method is oftentimes just for us. One of the complaints I've read about Warp One is that the method is obvious becasue there's no cover card. I'm a reasonably intelligent guy and this fooled the hell out of me back then. I think an effect that is clear and concise and well rehearsed will serve a magician well. Put in the time on this and I think it will be a great addition to any magicans repertoire. My 2 cents |

It took me a couple days to get this to where I felt I was making progress and a couple more to get it to where I felt I could show it to someone. I am glad I invested the 4 days. I am sure others have learned it faster...perhaps I am a slow learner but if you like the Card Warp effect and would like to be able to do it with just the one card, by all means pick up this DVD. It takes some effort but it's worth it... at least in my opinion. I will continue to do Card Warp as it was first taught and some of the other variations using two cards or maybe a bill but will also be doing this version frequently. It's different, it's quick and it's fun to do.

I gotta get this!
I love the traditional Card Warp, but "Warp-One" has so many exclusive moves that make it different and unique. I gotta get it! Awesome job! Steve

WARP ONE ist not a "completely re-wired version of Roy Walton's classic Card Warp"! It is Jeff Busby's INTO THE 4TH DIMENDION...and BEYOND of 1973.
Here is the EFFECT: After a few other card tricks, the performer patters about the fourth dimension. A card is taken from the pack and folded in half longitudinally, face inwards. It is stroked and apparently the card turns inside out, the face now being on the outside. There is no movement of the fingers. This is repeated to reverse the process. The card is then unfolded to show back and front and then unmistakably torn into quarters. The pieces are wrapped in a handkerchief. (May be borrowed). Just before the hank is folded over the pieces are again shown separate and then rubber banded through the hank. While this is being done a corner drops out onto the floor unnoticed by the conjurer. The performer and a spectator each take two corners of the hank. The card pops out restored, except for the corner. The performer notices the corner on the floor for the first time and asks the spectator to see if it fits. It does exactly. The performer then offers to restore the torn corner, which he does true to his word by tacking it on with a piece of masking tape. After apologizing for the poor joke and disappointing the audience, he strips off the tape. The card is now completely restored! The performer bows to (hopefully) thunderous applause. |

I think warp one is great, plus you only need 1 card.

MueCard is absolutely correct in Warp One is more like Busby's "Into the Fourth Dimension... And Beyond" that it is like Walton's "Cardwap."
Although Warp One is very visual, I think the use of a cover card in Cardwarp adds a layer of mystery to the effect that the single card version does not have. Waving a hand over the card is not the same as passing it through a folded card, or bill, and the card turning over. I would start with Cardwarp, and finish with Warp One. A very strong one two punch. Jeff Pierce PS. I am working on a book of Cardwarp routines and presentations and you will be surprised at the work others have put into this plot. Roy is excited about all the different versions I have collected for this project. I expect the book release to be sometime next year so stay tuned!

We mention Roy's in the advert because that is the 'warp' everyone knows, plus it was Card Warp that inspired Warp One. I didn't learn about Jeff's effect until it came time to publish mine, and I dug into the derivation of Card Warp. On the DVD, both Jeff and Roy are given full credit and kudos. Jeff is the originator of the 'warp' type effect. It might be important to note also, that if you have seen Jeff's effect, Warp One is vastly different. Jeff pushes the card into a closed fist, etc. with, as you say, no movement of the fingers. Warp One is a completely different animal with very different moves. It is a warp effect, though, done with one card, and in that way comes straight from the seed of Jeff Busby's Into The Fourth Dimension...And Beyond! I'm so grateful to Jeff and Roy's work and for their inspirational influence on Warp One. David |

David,
I have to admit that I was deceived with your handling of Jeff’s basic move! And I nearly thought that must be another method. I have to congratulate you for your very smooth performance and handling of the effect! Reinhard |

I bought the DVD Last week and was floored by what I saw. I know how Card Warp is done, but with Warp1, it happens faster and seems more magical to me. I showed a few people at work David doing the demo and their mouths dropped and all they could say was no way and wow. I like this effect and plan on getting it down perfect and showing everyone I can. As for using two cards, I like Dr. Strangetrick by Michale Close. It could be because this was the first cardwarp effect I have seen, but it stuck in my memory also.
Thanks David Patrick |

WArpOne is a must have for anyone that performs the original...i've already performed it a handful of times and the routine just flows smoothly and everyone just can't believe what they're seeing...
David Ren Jenkins did a great job with this effect...! |

The smoothness, seemingly effortless and instantaneous twisting of the halves multiple times can ONLY be achieved by "proper" handling. And I submit that David Ren Jenkins has worked that handling out to perfection. It looks like a wave of the hand accomplishes instant changes. I knew four versions of Card Warp before seeing WarpOne, including Green Warp and Cervon's variations. Yet I purchased WarpOne in order to learn Jenkin's EXACT handling. Why reinvent the wheel? And why not reward the inventor for his efforts? Yeesh. I like to perform Green Warp first (Bob McAllister - years ago!) because it uses only one card and a bill as cover. Then I do it again with another card and hands only. The WarpOne transformations come so fast that the spectators are riveted. I do not need to patter at all. The visuals do all of the talking. And... my first spectator (after 4-1/2 hours of practice) was a waitress at the Magic Castle - she was jaded after having seen so many tricks from magicians - yet she screamed to me "Shut up!" and then grabbed for my hands to see whether I had an extra piece of card, which I did not. Then she was left speechless and had the look of awe on her face. You can't pay enough for that, in my opinion! |

WONDERFUL job David. Watched the demo twice, I was so impressed. I've been doing versions of Card Warp like many others, for years, but I LOVE the new handling you have created, and only 1 card.
The handling is pretty easy to understand after watching it a few times, but I'm still going to be purchasing your DVD at my earliest convenience, as I STRONGLY believe we need to support our 'fellow magi', especially if we want them to continue sharing their masterpieces. You've spent countless hours working out and 'mastering' the handling for this, and DESERVE to be paid for all your hard work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and I don't even own the dvd yet. Regards...smitty |

Picked up the DVD and I seem to get better reactions from Warp One than any other card warp I've done before. The handling is smooth and the fact you start and finish with just one card blows people away. The first time I done this, I was wearing a jacket and people were checking my sleeves for card pieces. So now I make a point of rolling everything up and letting the spectator choose the card before going into it. This way they see my hands are empty and there's nowhere for card pieces to come/go. Thank you David for such an excellent handling and adding such a wonderful effect to my act.

Just a quick note on getting the DVD (and thanks for honoring the originator and purchasing it, Smitty)...There is a lot of subtle work that goes into getting Warp One to make it look like it does. 13 years of development getting everything to move just right to make it that smooth. Things happen and it looks like they are not happening. I can always tell who on YouTube has purchased the video and who has tried to save 20 bones. Again, you're so welcome. By the way, you can look for something new soon. David |

I would have to conqure, you may think you can do it without buying the DVD, but you won't do it as well as if you buy the effect.
Someone mentioned "much faster" and more visual. While I agree it may be a "visual" effect in the mind of many of us magicians, speed does not necassarily make it better. Darwin Ortiz discusses time, speed and the such in his book Designing Miracles. Check it out. This is not to say Warp One isn't a nice effect, but don't do it fast and make it a flourish. There is only one way that is possible, and they will know it.
