Jaz,
I have been looking at their site. I have also heard the Sal Paciente's work is good... Any comments on the relative merits?

I can't say which DVD would be the best for you.
Most of what I learned came from books and I don't own any shell DVDs. Scoundrels is a good place to start and recommended by quite a few Café members. I know you do a pirate show and the reason I pointed it out is because of the Turtle and Beetle shells. I thought the Turtle shells would fit your show. Actually, wouldn't mussel, clam or conch shells and pearls work?? heheh Whichever media resource you choose you will learn necessary sleights and likely come up with routing ideas of your own. Good luck, |

Jaz,
The turtle shells might work... but sometimes if you use something that is outside of the "Normal" prop you set off alarm bells... ie, I believe that most rope routines should use white rope, since most people identify with rope as being white. Some other colour screams Magicians prop in their minds... But I will look at the school for scoundrels.

Welcome SeaDawg to the Scoundrels Forum. You'll find a lot of familiar names there. The SfS DVD on the shell game is by far the best on the market. Sal's covers a few basic moves and not much more.
If you're doing a show, especially in costume, they expect everything you use to be "props," even something as innocent looking as walnut shells. Just go for what fits your act. They really won't care. Technically, I had trouble with the Turtle shells. Due to the sloping sides they kept slipping out of my hands when I tried to lift them. The SfS shells, and the other walnut shells by Black Fox don't have this problem.

Thanks Dave for the warm welcome.
If the S4S forums are as helpful as those here on the Café have been, then I am really going to enjoy my time.... On of my favorite lines in my act is...."Imagine that... A Pirate who cheats".

Well, just another endorsement for the Scoundrels DVD, Street shells, and definitely the Perfect Peas. I received them all recently and I'm very happy with them.
