I am thirteen, and am interested in coin magic, so I was thrilled when I found that Brian Platt was coming. I had seen him on the Café, and respected him as a great thinker and magician (he had a whole lot of original ideas on Cattapult). It was a meeting at Charlie Brown's, and when Brian arrived, I began chatting with him and telling him how much I enjoyed coin magic. He asked me to perform a few coin tricks for him, so I pull out a quarter. I do a retention vanish, and a coin roll, and then I told him I could do a muscle pass. He asked me to do it, and I do my muscle pass. Unfortunately, I missed the coin as it flew up, it hit a light, and landed in Brian's soup. Being the kind magician he is, he scooped out my quater from his soup, wiped it off, handed it to me, and began eating his soup again. I try to muscle pass again, and I miss it again, and it lands right next to the soup. At that point, I apologized, and changed the topic of discussion. The moral of the story is to make sure you can catch coins before you perform the muscle pass at a restaraunt.
And good job Brian on your first lecture. I've been using the striking vanish, the coin in Tic-Tac box, and the sleeving method that makes it look like you are using the Raven. So my first lecture was a great experience, and it was more useful than a DVD.
