I'd like to buy Duane Laflin's DVD. Besides 4 volumes of "Secrets of Silk Magic", there is another one called "Sensational Silk Magic and Simply Beautiful Silk Magic". This one teaches you some silk magic and how to use a hank ball. Is it a good choice? Are there any common areas between these two series?

Hi:
I have the 2-DVD set you mention. I'm not sure I understand your question, but these 2 DVDs are different from the "Secrets of Silk Magic" series in that they contain much more information. There are a number of routines using standard props like the mutilated parasol and change bag. There are also routines that are appear to be more skill/manipulation - routines like color changing silks, blendo, and the silk fountain. I think you get about 4 hours or so between the 2 DVDs. I'm enjoying them very much and consider the price a bargain. Ron |

I think he's asking if any of the same effects appear on both series. Am I right, lcnsamuel?
You may want to contact Rebecca, Duane and Mary's daughter. She handles all of the product sales now. http://www.lockfamilymagic.com Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll be very happy. Duane puts out great products and is a wonderful teacher.

There is nothing but great silk magic on both videos. You will not go wrong with either. The Laflins are a class act on and off the stage. Duane has revived some very good silk magic and created some great routines and techniques for silk magic. Buy them.

This is Rebecca, Duane's daughter, I will try to give you a brief description in their differences. Simply Beautiful/Sensational covers a wide range of silk items, while the "Secrets of Silk Magic" series is more concentrated on specific gimmicks or items. If you are not sure what you want to be doing with silk magic and want to get a feel for the variety available to you, then Simply Beautiful/Sensational is great. However, if you are looking for in-depth instruction regarding the Palmo, Hank Ball, or Silk Fountain, then the "Secrets of Silk Magic" is what you want to go with. Silken Sequences and Steals (which is part of the series) does not cover one item, but rather covers a variety but more in depth than Simply Beautiful/Sensational.
If you are interested in what in particular is covered in each one, you can visit our site at http://www.lockfamilymagic.com or send an email with your specific questions, and I will do my best to answer. |

Thanks Ron, Michael, Darkwing, and Rebecca.
I want to learn some silk magic routines and how to use the props. Both series are great. I am just worried that if I buy hank ball/silk fountain DVD and Simply Beautiful/Sensational, I will get similar information. Does Simply Beautiful/Sensational teach you how to steal the props and snap silk? |

Hi:
The "Snap Silk Production" is not on the Beautiful/Sensational DVDs. Duane does show how to use your table to bring in different gimmicks such as dye tubes, hank balls, and the Palmo. I don't believe he uses any body loads. I would say the Beautiful/Sensational DVDs concentrate first on routines, while the "Secrets..." series give you more detailed information on techniques. Ron |
