Am I the only one who dislikes the spotlight when not in the spotlight? It's a totally different picture when I am performing...all eyes on me.

Hi, my name is Bill and I'm a recovering attention ***re.
It's weird how I have two personalities. And so do I. We both have different needs. He likes to get as much attention because I don't get it. And he likes to be left alone out of the crowds because I get enough for both of us. |

It turns a little more into work than what it used to be.

I'm working on a trick where I produce a coin from my pocket protector! This trick is so neato that I'm gonna show it to the next girl I meet in a bar, even if she doesn't ask me!

There is a DVD devoted to the subject: "Flirting with Magic", sold through Magictricks in the UK
http://www.magictricks.co.uk/shopdisplay......;sppp=25 Was it good? well...., it certainly contained a lot of stuff and even a section on reading body language...female that is. Trick example: Imagine the "Out for lunch" principle with your business card that end up with a heart with your phone number written into the heart (or whatever you want to end up with) Endre

Don't do magic for a girl. If youre charming, do a "psychological test" for a girl to see if you are on the same wavelengths. By coincidence (your favorite method), you are thinking of the same coin, card, president, her birthday is the one you wrote on the card people exchange numbers at bars with, etc., etc. And then if youre interested in her and she you, then do not talk about magic. Talk about her.

Do they still make Disco's?
I hate to say it but anyone that says Don't Do Magic for women, probably just doesn't have the right personality for cold-contact with women IN BAR SETTINGS, with or without magic. It is all in your personality, and if you are out at a bar or club, and have a sense of tact and timing, magic can be an extremely powerful tool. Getting a laugh is all you need to get, how you get it is not really important, unless you are getting laughed AT. Magic can VERY easily get you a laugh, laughs following amazement are better than laughs from a joke. There are plenty of great effects listed, I usually end up making a napkin rose at some point, it is very powerful. ITR's are good in bars because they have low lighting, but managing your surroundings is obviously important. AND no matter what they say, women LOVE money, especially when it appears! Airship is right, I mean, LOOK at the guy, you know he always has a good time. I will say that if you are in an elegant setting, you need to definitely change your approach.

I Know this is an old thread but, it's a fun topic and..
Hey. Do you think there are "Magician Groupies"? I don't think I've ever heard any of my friends(Female) say "Let's go and see if we can score with some Magicians! and get giddy with anticipation. The Magic is an Ice Breaker. You can tell when it's an un-welcomed invasion or a genuine interest on the party involved. The bottom line it is your personality that will carry you through to the next stage. If you want that quick hit and run... Join a Rock Band. Bill

SoCalPro Jim does have a point. In order to be a GOOD magician requires sitting alone in your bedroom for many lonely months - or years - playing with your . . uh . . props! Look at many of the guys in the local magic club - would you want THEM dating your sister? HA!
It's your personality - not the magic. Still, good magic, if not presented out of nervous desperation, can certainly help make them smile and become more interested. Maybe it's much like deciding what sort of approach would you use at a customer's table if you were doing walk around in a restaurant. Something that isn't too intrusive, but gets their attention. If it's just female attention you want, offer to read one of the girl's palms! Within minutes, you'll have a LINE of them wanting 'their turn!' (Altho, yes, it can be hard to talk in a loud bar . . . "Perhaps we should step to a more quiet corner someplace . ." HA!) I also agree with the comment about being COOL with any magic. Do it because it's pretty and fun . . . IF they like it - good . . . if not, chances are they're not gonna like the fact that you've spent so much of your life doing that kind of thing. Find another female to impress and see if SHE likes it! |

Possibly the most important rule with any gender is never to force a trick upon someone, don't even start a trick just for your entertainment unless it is a small and quick manipulation, such as the coin roll. I have always waited until asked to show a trick, and I make sure that it is over quickly. If you carry on too much, you have turned yourself from a respectable person to a showoff. sad but true.
