I sent Kem pictures and I was particularly concerned about the poorly made headstick and he confirmed he made it but added it was one of his very early ones... which is a mystery to me.

How can this be negative? Anyone interested in a Poyner upon reading this can point out some details to Kem when he orders a figure.

I lost hard earned money in buying this figure yet I mean no harm against anyone, but a review is a review and again its a review of THIS particular figure and NOT of Kem's work in genral.

I have 3 of his high quality figures which I bought directly from him... and used this figure as my main figure for almost 4 years already.

That's what makes what you were told when you bought it suspicious. You were told it was new, but the makers know their own work and he says it was one of his early ones, hmmmmmm....

The mystery to me is how can his latest series be one of his early work? Smile

It’s not a mystery at all, Kem may have started building this style 6 months ago and this may be the first or second figure he made, making it an earlier figure.

It has not been determined if it was Kem’s poor workmanship, or a previous owner modifying the lever and being responsible for breaking the jaw of the figure

It might be something he was thinking about making before and ended up setting it aside for a while. I remember when his figures first started popping up, always something different, there were a few that were basically the same, but mostly, there were a lot of different ones that he didn't repeat.
Another possibility based on the fact that you said the head is much heavier - it might be an early figure he made and reworked into a scuddlebud figure. which would have required adding more material and adding to the weight.

If one will read this thread before posting a comment, one can see I posted this originally asking for reviews from existing Poyner figure users to help me decide if I should get one for myself. I eventually got one due to positive reviews. I also ended up posting my own reviews and resulted to some vents purchasing figures from Kem, OliverTwist is one of them. I still stand by my original review that the Bobby figure that I have including the back up head are of high quality which is why I have been using it for almost four years. It did broke a few times and everytime it did, Kem fixed it which is why I commented that Kem stands behind his work.

Riddle me this...

I have a Poyner which I bought directly from Kem... high quality.

I also have his #1 Scuddlebud...

Now I have another one... can this be earlier work compared to the one I bought 4 years ago?

I wont post further comments til the originalnowner post his story. Let's just wait

Got word from Jimmy the original owner...

Kem is correct, this was an early work... but not that early compared to my figure bought 4 years ago which means it cant be an excuse for poor quality specially if it was sold as brand new figure to the original buyer.

Let's wait for Jimmy's complete story.

Blueshawk and Buzz... You both have a point.

Nonethess, somethkng is wrong somewhee.

It is possible, like I said earlier, either something he started way back and didn't follow through with at the time, or something he reworked into the figure it is now.
Both are normal, I've done the same thing myself, started a figure, set aside and didn't come back to finishing it for a long time, and I've reworked a couple I did, picked them up after they were sitting for a time and decided I didn't like what I did before and reworked them.

Point well taken and yes I understand its possible... Thanks

It is somewhat confusing and all guess work without all the details.
One thing is good though, I'm glad you have bought new figures from Kem in the past and are happy with so that you know this is not typical of his figures.

I know what went wrong but would rather ask Jimmy to post his story first before I post more
comments.

Just an idea...this was sold to him directly by Kem as a brand new figure...

I bought this figure from an auction put up by Kem himself. He lists the figure as "new" in the title of the auction. He also shows the website photo not the actual photo but does not mention that is the case.

After the auction I paid Kem a good additional some of cash to add the moving brows.

Kem finished the puppet modifications and mailed the figure durectly to me.

I have never owned, used or seen a Poyner figure before this so I have no quality comparison.

Here's the link.

If you will take a look at the photos below, you will see a Poyner figure that I owned new 9-years ago. It was the first of this model, and was the actual figure used on the Poyner website at the time.(I believe Tom Crowl also owned a version of this model) Beautiful figure. However, the controls strained the muscles in my fingers, the interior of the body was crude, unfinished fiberglass, with many sharp edges. Even the head-stick and control locations were less than desirable. Talk about HEAVY!! As one of my duties in organizing the Vegas Vent Festival, I was also the Dealer's Room Manager. Kem Poyner and his twin Brother(now deceased) owned a table to display their figures. I had a discussion with both of them on ways to improve their figures. I even introduced them to Tim Selberg, and Robert McRay(Bigheads), who offered some tips. Kem was appreciative and also offered to provide any work on "Gus" for free if I wanted.
I had many offers for Gus during the Festival since he was the "First". He was sold to a Vent with the understanding that improvements were necessary. Early Poyner figures were a bit on the rough side since the brothers were just starting out. I can understand where a Vent would want to make adjustments to make them more usable for performance. The Poyner quality has improved drastically over the years. That comes with honing your craft. Kem definitely stands behind his work.
These photos were taken in 2003.

And I have nothing against Kem Smile

I only reacted when I was asked how I can comment on quality when I have not seen his previous work, obviously I have Smile

Anyway... I think Kem should have auctioned this with specific details... his discription in his auction about the light weight ang high quality controls is deceiving.

I feel terible when hard earned money is wasted... Smile

I have notified Kem and hopefully this figure will be repaired...

Either I ship it back to Jimmy so he can ship it back to Kem or if Kem will allow, I can ship this back directly to him.

I leave it all to Kem to decide what to do...
