For Christmas I am going to buy some card cheat videos and I am curious as to whom is the best to spend my money on. Simon Lovell has 2 videos on card cheating, Darwin Ortiz has a few, and Steve Forte has his protection series that doesn't reveal but he does show the sleight (if you can call them that) Are there any others? I want anything that has to do with cheating, scamming, and conning. Thanks!

Steve Forte is the absolute best in the world. After these tapes I would recommend Darwin Ortiz.

Get yourself Steve Forte's four videos
"Gambling Protection series" you will see a master card mechanic teaching you the moves that cheaters use in poker, bridge, black jack, dice, etc... The tapes are a must for people like yourself interested in the gambling scams... also there's another video tape on Black Jack called "Cheating at Black Jack, the real work" The video is expensive and it is sold at Magic Smiths Hope this helps vinny |

Thanks tilt! Have you seen the others? Will I be able to learn the sleights that Forte does? He doesn't explain them, and if I am going to drop $165.00 greens, I wanna make sure I can learn something from it, and not just be entertained, you know what I mean? What else fellow card springers? Keep em comming.

I have learned many things from these tapes. If you watch them enough times you will be able to figure everything out, he is pretty clear on showing the action.

The Forte tapes and the Ortiz tape are not instructional tapes where you will learn how to perform the various sleights.
Both the Forte series and the Ortiz tape are worth picking up (they are very good) but if your purpose is to learn how to perform a strike second deal or how to perform a crooked shuffle, you will have a very difficult time trying to learn by observing these tapes.

Thanks Mark and everyone. So far, it seems that Steve Forte and Darwin Ortiz know what they are doing when it comes to demonstrating how cheats work. But what I am really after is, an instructional video describing HOW to do them. And it looks as though Simon Lovell stands alone. Is that correct? I know that Ackerman, explains some false shuffles, but not a set aside volume on card sharping. Also, which videos of Ortiz's does he only demonstrate, is it Card Sharp, or at the table? Thanks all, keep the tips comming, I am still uncertain as to which I will buy. Has anyone out there seen the Lovell tapes, or any others?

I am trying to get Steve just to run a few copies off for me so that I can supply the backorders that I have for them. I'll keep your order on file and hopefully get more from Steve if he 'gives in.'" |

Darwin Ortiz has a video available called "Darwin Ortiz on Card Cheating". It is about an hour long and he demonstrates false shuffles, false cuts, false deals, riffle stacking and hand mucking.
His magic tapes don't really go into a tremendous amount of detail on how to perform these moves because there is so much involved in learning one particular move that he would end up spending a couple of hours just tipping the strike second deal, bottom deal or whatever sleight he happens to perform. By the way, Darwin's magic videos should be in your video library.

You can get the Forte tapes from The Earths Largest Magic Shop or from the Gamblers General Store in Las Vegas. You can find web sites for these if you do a search.
p.s. Mark, like I said if you watch these tapes enough times you can learn anything from them (including all of the dice moves). It just takes some practice. Tilt |

Brad Burt has a "Gambling Sleights for Magicians" video that is along the line of Lovell's tapes. I haven't seen it yet but I am interested in getting it...anyone else had the chance to view it?

If you're like me: You'll wait for Paul Chosse to start giving up some techniques - In the meantime, the Forte tapes are absolutely the most interesting - and of course Mr Ortiz makes a good living by consulting with casinos on spotting a card cheat - and believe it or not, at your local video store there is a tape Titled: BEAT A CHEAT - I got it for $9.99, very entertaining

If you're looking to do a gambling demo and want to learn the moves and be entertaining, I'd go for the Simon Lovell vids. I liked 'em and refer back to them often.

Is there anyone who has seen all of these tapes?
How about Martin A. Nash, is he a great one to learn cheating at cards? |

Wannabelikedai - What is it that you want to learn, and why?
There are so many things in gambling that are not applicable to anything magical. Unless you are planning a gambling expose, or want to play professionally, there is really no need to learn the stuff. Some exceptions to that rule include hops, some hand muck techniques, and some run-up and false deal, cut shuffle work. The real work, like holdout machines, shirt work, beanies, bugs, playing a light, spreading, etc. just don't apply to magic, and don't even make for very entertaining gambling exposes. Define your needs, wants, etc. and perhaps we can narrow the focus and help you out. Best, PSC

Have anyone seen "Cheating At Blackjack: The Real Work?" It is by Dustin Marks. The one video tape is $199.95. Do you think it is worth getting?

It is a good book, but like Nash, he assumes you know what you are doing already.

Jack Carpenter has 2 videos on cheating. You can do a 10 minute routine, and it is within the grasp of most cardmen, not that difficult, and superb gambling material.
