I agree with you.
This ’S’ would fit as a replacement if the Card Trick Game players feel that Shovel Move (Jean Faré) is a stretch for this game.

Correct. Each is an independant solution to a Karl Fulves problem. Trost's version was influenced by Allan Slaight's trick, "Build Down" (aka "Poker Champ").
