Hi All,
I am beginning mentalist and downloaded the Annemann's Complete One Man Mental and Psychic Routine. I really find the Telephone and Dead Names routines appealing to use and/or integrate into my act. But I am litte uncomfortable with the handling. Not that it is hard, but the method at which I don't feel is convincing. I've performed the routines to my test specs, with some slieght variations, but saw nothing that effected the routine, but still this handling bothers me. Is there any alternatives or resource for a better handling of these effects? I would go into more detail, but don't want to expose anything. Also, I did a search and didn't find anything pertaining to this except for someone's rework of this piece, but 45 beans seems a little steap for me.

Stuart cumberland sells the annemann act 2005 with exactly these effects and others but in a new and fresh coat. I can recommend this e-book highly.

The Cumberland rework of this is worth EVERY single bean you will spend on it.

Check out Bob Cassidy's billet work. He has a wealth of e-books and information on the subject that will greatly help you out and get your creative juices flowing when trying to modify an existing effect.

Solrak,
Even though Stuart doesn't like me much, let me tell you that his reworking of the Annemann Act is absolutely worth every penny of the 45 bucks! He goes into incredible detail into ALL the workings about the routine. If you are interested in performing it (and it appears that you are!) I think you MUST invest in it, and then you'll understand why. As he mentions, Stuart has been doing the act probably for many more years than Annemann himself, and he is the widely acknowledged expert on it. I assume you downloaded either the Lybrary.com ebook or the Trickshop.com "update" (which only amounts to an additional sentence or two), but let me assure you that Stuart's ebook is totally comprehensive. As to the Telephone Book and Dead Names stuff, you will find that every little nuance is explored and explained by Stuart, including all sleights, and blocking, and exactly when and how to say everything. Those 45 beans may SEEM steep, but they're worth it, trust me. I think anyone who owns it will say the same thing. Seth |

Of all the material put out by Stuart, I would vote for this as the best. He really goes into detail, and shows you a few clever additions that make some of the work easier.

I got it as well - it is a gem. Plus photos showing the classic billet folds!

Although I agree Stuart Cumberland's ideas are excellent I can assure you that the original routine is fabulous as is. I've been doing the Telephone Drama and Telepathy plus for over 10 years exactly as Annamann desribes it and with slight modifications in presentation (living and dead tests are not my style) and bits of business it remains one of my favorite routines.
The trick is to perform and practice them enough so the routine becomes a part of you. The misdirection becomes part of your personality. When I first started I too felt uncomfortable with some of the switches but soon realized, unlike magic effects, noone was burning my hands. They were too interested in the procedure and what was happening to even think about my hands. I've since added various bits of business to enhance the routines. They remain a core part of my act and always will be. Thanks Steve |
