Which do you perfect for closeup and strolling magic: Quantum Bending2 or Porper's new Folding Money? Thanks.

What, no terminator wallet included there?

Briana,
I would either use QB2,Terminator or simply a basic bobo swi..h. While Mr. Porper makes wonderful items and I have most of his effects, Folding Money screams gimmick. A bneding coin gimmick should be stealth and used without the spectator ever suspecting that a gimmick is being used. By visibily dropping a coin, signed or not, into a wad of money held by a money clip and specifically alling attention to it, will only leave the spectator the only pratical conclusion of waht caused the coin to bend after it is dropped out of the "Folded Money." Just my 2 cents. Best wishes, Michael

I like the premise of Folding Money... as you get the gag out of it... but you seem to have a lot of things to juggle... money clip, folded bills, sharpie to mark the coin, the coin,... ack! With QB or QB2 all that stuff is gone long before the effect begins.

What do you mean you can't mark the coin with the Bobo method?? You just have to know their initials before hand, or know EXACTLY what they will write on the coin...see the inner thoughts section for details on how to be psychic and write down on the penny what they will before the effect begins.

I personally think that QB2 is too expensive for a single effect.
alright, 2 effects, key bender included. |

J,
Exactly, you can do a simple CT or peek, then write their initials using pocket wri.... or a pen NW.Then do a simple bobo switch. Good thinking. You can use a person who wears glasses. If that is too difficult, then just use a stooge. Michael

I was only Joking about the psychic think being real, and Superman is not real either ;O)
Mr. Magicinsight...you are quite right about the CT or peek. I like Neil Tobin's X-pert pen as a means of getting a signed coin to bend. I hate to stereo type young blonde girls, so I'll have to blame the last time I used this effect on my own personal spectator management...When you say, "close you're hand" you may want to actually wrap up their hand in foil, or cable tie their fingers their thumb ontop of their finger after having them make a fist with your coin(S). I always thought just drawing a silly mustache on the coin (head side for obvious reasons)would look impromptu enough. Simply have a dupe ready to go for your switch...Just don't let anyone in your group see you making change with anycoins that have mustaches on them, or eventually they'll catch on. :O) This of course could be done with initials as well. Yep, that's right guys... just keep playing with your superman bender(s) while the big boys use the QB2. The effect is NOT the same!
Would you say that a Super X suspension is the same as Copperfield's Flying? No way.... that is the difference between all those effects mentioned above and the QB2. Except, the QB2 doesn't require all that set up... and the reason for the difference between the prices is obvious. Bob LaRue Omnibozoologist |

Completely as an aside, but I've always thought it would be hilarious to act as a laymen and just switch out a QB2 or Folding money or whatever for a completely normal item that looks identical and just see what the magician says....
That would be extremely cruel but somehow funny, if you consider how often we put really really expensive items in the hands of spectators without them knowing it.(heck, even that guy that had his $20 sponge molded/colored rabbit's ear ripped off by a kid because he put them in their hands is pretty funny). |

I have QB1 abd QB2. As an aside, QB2 is far superior thatn QB1. I have also used Mr. Tobin's X-Pert which is excellent. I do not own Superman (but my 2 year old son does have a superman costume and my wife and I do watch Smallvile).QB2 is a clean, fast and stealth method of doing a wondonful coin bend effect without any swit..... and I would recommend it. However, I have received great reactions from doing the effect using X-Pert with someone's initials.
Johne, I really like your idea of using a mustache. It makes the marking interesting and entertaining and acomplishes the same purpose, especially if you do not know the person's initials. Michael

In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two products. I wouldn't use one of them if it was given to me free, and will say no more.

Larry...can you say which two products? I hope you were not referring to Super X suspension or Copperfield's Flying? ;o)
GDW (can I capitalize all three at the beginning of a sentence?) The X-pert device is used as a means of allowing you to apparently bend a previously signed coin. Without giving too much away, you sign the initials on a coin and add it amongst some other in the spectators hand...upon opening, the initialed coin is found bent. This item was developed by Neil Tobin, and was well recieved in the mentalist community. Michael...I think if you watch the credits on Smallville, they give you a special code that you can use for a 20% rebate on your next Superman Coin Bender. I'm not sure if they are offering the same incentives with the costumes though. At least not until Thanksgiving. J |

If you are bold enough, especially after a couple of vodka martinis, you can slip the initialed coin into a specator's pants pocket or coat prior to using x-pert. then after the coin vanishes from the specator's hand, it is find in the spectator's pocket (bent or unbent). I would not recommend using this technique for the coin to be find in a women's pants/slacks or dress pocket unless you are really courageous and don't mind getting slapped in the name of magic. Using QB2 is slap free.
Johne, thanks for the tip about the code. I will watch it this Thursday and let you know. Michael

Okay, I'll clarify a bit, but I will not openly slam. In my opinion, if you're buying a coin bending product to use in performance and not simply to collect, there's no comparison between the QB2 and the Folding Money products. I can easily think of a convincing outward motivation for using one of the products but not for using the other product in the real world, and will happily eat crow if someone offers sensible outward motivations for using both.

Thank you for your clarification. I honestly wasn't sure if you were talking about the X-pert or the other coin benders.
