Hello all.
I've been looking at the set of tricks that I perform and a lot of them rely on gaffs or gimmicks. I'm feeling a bit guilty and unprepared if I go to a party and I am handed a deck of cards. Sure I can do reset and ACR and a few others but it aint enough. PLease list for me your top 5 KILLERS that you can perform at the drop of a hat. the more visual the better! Regards Mac |

Well, be a bit more specific.
do you mean impromptu in general regardless of the objects used or do you mean something specific? -Matt

First of all. Don't go a part and do magic, unless paid. If you absolutely HAVE to, then get the Michael Ammar series, "Easy to master card miracles". There are like 9 DVDs in the series and I HIGHLY recommend them.

Ok, so we're talking cards.
I second SoCalPro's suggestion. great series! I would also recommend Card College by Roberto Giobbi. a great course and there are a lot of great effects taught. Harry Lorayne's Magic Classics is also great.one of my favourites. to find some killer card effects I suggest you take a look at the Workers section. go through the threads and you will what you are looking for. if you are a little lazy then start a thread there. just be prepared to learn cause you won't know what to start with hehe good luck! -Matt

So you mean impromptu magic? Or do you mean gaffless "street magic" in the E sense of the word. Check out this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&104

I totally hear you on that. I'm starting to hate them as well. I feel guilty any time that I use them. That's not to say that I feel the same when I use a utility device like a TT, palmo, topit etc.

I know I used to thnk "by any means neccesary" but I duno anymore. Also I cringe when I see magicians performing the same stuff..triumph, acr etc. What is wrong with me.

I sometimes feel that way as well and wish I could go back to the days when I first discovered magic. I guess it'll never be like that. I now get a thrill when I watch someone who's really good. He may be performing the same old stuff, but when he does it, he does it well and it's beautiful to watch.

There's no need to feel guilt.
If you are entertaining and mystifying then you doing your job. Maybe you can't get the thrill but those who watch you should. It's always a good idea to study sleight of hand and impromptu magic. |

I was watchng a show called "Magic in the streets" n although the magic was technically good it still came across like a trivial novelty n not an art.I guess performances with no emotional hooks leave me unipressed.

I agree Jaz that we shouldn't forget our main goal-to amaze.
but I feel the same way about gimmicks and utility devices now. like raphlo2 said, it was different when we started out. I remember that I was trying to get my hand on every gimmick. I guess the guilt caught up with me, hehe. -Matt
