Hi guys, I recently have been approached to do a birthday party for a regular client who happens to be the chairman (CEO) of a well known retail chain. The party is for his 5 year old and is to be on his boat, which is moored in Monte Carlo! I will be flown out on his private jet, do the 1 hour show, stay overnight in one of the hotels, then flown back; all this for a fee, plus expenses! I have worked for kids on planes, trains, boats, etc., so where is the most unusual place you have done a show for kids?

Sounds like a fun adventure!

I've worked on a house boat, which had a 1 metre floor space and over 15 children and myself to fit in! That was different.
The main problem was that the boat was moving, so nothing stayed still.

Another problem was that they had hired me for one hour, but the boat was on a two-hour trip.
I was stuck for an extra hour on the boat. The parents expected me to continue entertaining even though I wasn't being paid, and I was unable to get off the boat, making me late to my next show.

While I've not performed in any exotic places yet, I was asked several weeks ago if I could do a birthday party show in a sports center swimming pool. I asked if she meant on the deck, and she said, "No, in the pool itself!" Smile

She was quite disappointed when I gave her all my reasons for declining. She just thought it would be something unique for her child's party.

I did a show last summer on a houseboat. But this was no ordinary houseboat. Oh no, it was made of parts of old cars, coaches, fridges, cookers, even bits of an aeroplane! There was half a Robin Reliant sticking out by the main gangway, a coach split in two along the sides of the boat, aeroplane wings for a ceiling in the main's really something else! Very spacious, too. There are several houseboats like this in Shoreham (near Brighton, England). The man responsible for these weird creations was there; an old hippie who loves to weld old metal!
The kids who attended were in 7th Heaven. It was just like something out of a kids movie.

A few years back I was hired at a country fair to do a 45 minutes show.
The parking lot was full with stalls, and they had no stage set up.
There is this cemetery beside the parking lot. I set up my table on the grass and used a long flat cement tomb bed, for a lady name Lilly, for my stage.
I stood on that grave for the entire show. Everyone there had a good laugh on my account. Well, as long as they were having a good time, that was OK with me.

Did one for a Funeral Home, the owner's child's electricity that night, so we had to use the hearse for the lights and to play the birthday music. I performed as a clown and had to put my makeup on inside the casket stockroom. It was freakingly irritating!!! This was about 15 years ago...

I was offered to go to Brunei to perform for the Royal family, which I declined because of schedule conflicts. Smile Too bad, because they were offering free accommodations and very nice talent fee. Smile

Did one gig in a swimming pool as a party host (not magic show), just parlor games...

Did hotel restaurant shows...nothing unusual about that Smile , but doing magic for 2 to maximum 5 people in the hotel restaurant was a great challenge, and I did it for 8 consecutive Sundays. When it was time to renew the contract, I declined, despite the fact that they were offering a higher pay...not my type of gigs! Smile

Did free shows for cancer was very rewarding. Smile Seeing them laugh was just great and relieving them of their problems, even for just a few minutes, was just great for me...

I just did a Halloween Party in a two-car garage.
The party was to be outside, but the temperature dropped. So it was moved to the garage.

I have done shows in a steam train carriage, a catamaran, a caravan, a cinema (in front of screen), and a cat's home. Basically anywhere strange beginning with a "c", I've performed.
