Billwonder mentioned the "Coin up the Straw" effect by Sankey...it's on his Revolutionary Coin Magic tape.
It's great!

Oblique, I think it's called Jay Sankey, but it's the one where he starts with the torn and restored movie ticket, and does first performance of Cardboard Contortionists.

I found Gaetan Bloom's 'straw bending" trick in one of catalogues dealers sent to me.
The effect is that he starts to bend and unbend a straw together with spectators. Everybody is easy to bend because straws has bellows. However, he taps a glass with his straw and it make a metalic noise. Finally, he shows his spectators that there is a very thick wire inside his straw! It sounds good. |

I created a trick that parodies spoon bending, using a drinking straw.. (a bendy straw to be specific)

Hi everyone,
How about the "Straw Through Tongue" by David Stone, it can be found in his "Made in France" lecture notes. I saw him doing it live and it is very good and very visual and also fun!!! All the best Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

There are a couple of cut and restored string effects in Abbott's Encyclopedia of Rope Magic using a drinking straw. Simple but powerful if presented properly. There is one effect where you can put three different colored strings through a straw, have a spectator choose a string, cut the straw in two, and have every string but the chosen string cut in two. Lovely.

It's kind of funny that I found this discussion because it was just a few days ago that I came up with a trick with a drinking straw. I came up with a possible routine for it but it's not to entertaining yet. I'll share it so maybe some of you could share some ideas with it.
The effect is based on an old trick with a straw (Still wrapped in paper) and a tooth pick. You basically do a strike vanish of the tooth pick and it's found in the straw. The difference with mine is that I remove a straw from the paper. take a lighter and melt the ends closed. Then I have a tooth pick marked with a marker. They can't write their name but they can put some identifying marks on it. Then proceed to do the strike vanish of the tooth pick. The end of the straw is cut off with scissors and the marked tooth pick is found inside. The method is that you simple have a little slit in the straw toward one end. When you cut the straw you cut at the slit and hide the evidence. Any ideas other then a tooth pick for this? Or other uses? Ron Jaxon |

Michael Skinner had a very nice torn and restored paper routine using a straw wrapper, which used the straw itself in the method.

I used to perform Jay Sankey's Plastic Surgery with a straw and a half-dollar until I watched Scott Alexander's Bullet Catch! Check out his Midnight Show dvd for his death defying close-up version of the classic "Bullet Catch" using a straw and its wrapper.
