First off let me say that I do not have any financial gain from this BUT I really was amazed at how great this was.

One of my favourite tricks as a child was watching a magician take a silk, poke it into his hand and then opened it to reveal that the silk had changed into an egg. Imagine my surprise when he offered to show us all how to do it and then did. He actually revealed that the egg was not real and was in fact a fake which had a hole in it that he poked the silk into. We were all fascinated that this magician would actually reveal this to us, not only showing us how it worked BUT how to do it. He showed how to hold this fake egg, how to wave the silk so that your hand appears empty and then finally how to poke the silk into it and then reveal the egg.

What really floored us was that he then went on to explain that you should never expose the end of the egg where we poked the silk into or we would reveal the trick BUT that if we were real magicians we could, and then get this, peel off the hole with the silk and then break the egg (which he did) into a glass. In other words, he turned the fake egg into a real one, first peeling off the hole with the silk in it and then broke the egg proving that it was now real. We were absolutely stunned and amazed.

Now there have been several releases over the years of this trick, ones with various types of fake eggs, some that require switches, some that do not, all with their own pros and cons and I have pretty well seen most of them as well as the various methods employed for this effect and I can honestly tell you that George Robinson at Viking has produced the Rolls Royce of Silk to Egg effects.

Aside from the instructions (which could have been more detailed but they do give you enough to learn how to do the trick) the gimmicked egg is amazing. It’s light weight and looks like a real egg even when you are 2 inches away so that when you tuck the silk into it, it really does look as if the silk (you get a good quality red silk with the effect too) turned into an egg. Now the instructions teach you the way to change the egg into a real egg and what you are supplied with surpasses any other version. They supply you with several SILK STICKERS that look as they should, as if a silk was sticking out of the hole BUT these are stickers and are what you peel off the egg before you break the egg into a glass revealing it to be real and not a fake after all. No one else has ever produced such realistic looking stickers that really sell this trick far better than a simple, flat stickers coloured with a marker (which is what most magicians use).

This is the finest version of this trick available, one that is truly produced for the connoisseur professional and if you want a good looking, sucker type effect that will astound your audiences as well as make them laugh, I cannot recommend this effect enough.

Thanks Paul

I too have loved performing Silk to Egg in the past, it was always a real audience pleaser. This egg sounds great!

I got the egg alone (no instructions) from Viking and was extremely impressed. I had several ideas from Tarbell, Pete Biro, Rice and Bobo that I wanted to work with anyway. I don't use the stickers, not that I won't at some point, I just put together a routine based on the three influences mentioned that doesn't include them, that fits me at present. But what makes it all really come together is the egg, which really does look like an egg, as opposed to some other models of ping-pong ball size or just odd construction. I do want to incorporate this with Kling Klang, something to work on... But if you need a great-looking egg that actually looks normal, get the Viking one.

Could silk stickers be made, if you were wanting to use a different color silk than red?

I learned from Tarbell's books to watch how many red things are in my act.

I'm using blue silks because I see so many people using red... No reason why you couldn't make the required sticker in any color. You can buy an inexpensive 9" silk that is the same color as the ones you're using and make a bunch of them from that.

Maybe you can ask someone to paint it for you (or do it yourself).

Tannens is advertising a "Silk to Egg Delux" for $27. Is it the viking version? Does it include the stickers???
