A fellow conjurer and myself are trying to levitate his cat...someone dared him to try. So we have a few ideas but they seem very impractical considering we don't have a welder or anything. I was thinking of using a large weight lifting belt and some pipes and flanges. Does anyone have a better more commonsense method.

First, wrap a LOT of duct tape around the cat, especially around his claws. Then you can levitate him any way you wish! Remember that cats always land on their feet, so make sure you have him flip over, feet down, as he descends.

Seriously the cat is declawed. Both Chris and myself prefer closeup but, somebody dared him to levitate his cat. That someone may be watching to much Angel. Any way it would be cool to levitate the cat...you could use this effect for kid shows by levitating dolls and other not so heavy stuff. Have not found IT that is strong enough to spin the cat ha ha. That would be cool I mean cruel though.

How about using a CATapult?
You might also consider using a Zombie gimmick, but where would you stick it? Sorry... :(

You might take a look in some of the old U.F. Gen Grant books, or even some of the older golden books on magic for a basic levitation, you will need a rear curtain of some sort<think plank and counter weight>.
Unless this is a very large cat, you ought to be able to work with pipe connectors form the hardware store for something like a flying carpet style. After the device is made, it is just a matter of the right amount of catnip to get Mr. whiskers to stay put for the performance! slow movements so the cat won;t spook and jump off. k

Aw, Kay is no fun! She's hit the nail on the head, or skinned the cat, as it were. She's right. The flying carpet would be just perfect if you can get kitty to cooperate, maybe by putting it's favorite blankie on top of it and training it to curl up and lie down up there. Then you quietly take the support away.
But the CAT-apult levitation would be much funnier, you have to admit.

That was pretty good, but I suspect camera trickery. Is he related to Criss Angel?

This is the way I do it. You know that if you drop a cat it always lands on its
feet and if you drop a piece of buttered toast it always lands butter side down. I strap a piece of buttered toast on the cats back and lift him up chest high toast side down. It turns in the air a few times and then floats. One of my cats coils around and eats the toast and comes down on it's feet to take a bow. That the one I useually use..........Mike Walsh |
